    Question Toyota 2Y advice needed

Im after some advice regarding the Toyota 2Y engine as fitted to hiluxs
The problem seems to be that exhaust is finding its way into the intake manifold to such a large extent that it is actually blowing the air/fuel mix out of the carby.

I replaced the stock carby with a Weber 32/36 DFAV that I just rebuilt.
Far less complicated and no birds nest of EGR & Vac hoses to diagnose.
Problem remains the same with new carb.
Obviously the accelerator cable, fuel hose etc is only there temporarily.

There appears to be some type of EGR valve (circled in red)
When bolted to the motor exhaust gas comes out of the nipple in yellow with significant pressure and as mentioned above engine barely runs whilst blowing air fuel out carb.
Decent amount of pressure at tail pipe with some amount of unburnt fuel in the gas.

When the valve is removed The engine runs far better through full rev range, to the point of being drivable but again with a massive amount of exhaust coming from one of the holes where the valve was, and barely any exhaust comes out the tail pipe.

I did make up a block off plate and it has the same symptoms as when valve normally in place.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I'd put teh plate back on and disconnect the exhaust before the first muffler. My bet is the muffler is blocked. It will be really gutless if the exhaust is blocked. Also, make sure you haven't bellied out and squashed the exhaust pipe.

    Cheers,
    Shane

    Thanks Shane.

Ill have to try that next days off.
Most likely going to be something simple like that, rest of ute is pretty decent.
I only just picked it up for cheap, not sure of its history other then it was a daily work ute.
Fella reckons it gradually ran rougher until it was un-driveable.
Hopefully its something basic that I've over looked.

Thanks fellas problem sorted. Got a chance to pull it apart yesterday, blocked cat.
    Replaced and good as gold

Had to laugh when I took it for a spin down the highway, was wondering why it wouldnt go into 4th...
The old 2Y is really revving its tits off to sit at 100kp/h.

Will have to investigate mating a 5spd up to it after I get it registered.
I have a w57 sitting here... wonder how different the gearbox side of the bell housings are....
