Hi all,
I recently purchased a '92 LS400 knowing that the speedo had issues. The guy before me said he had replaced the speedo driven gear and it worked for a few weeks. When I went to inspect this I found that an 18 tooth gear had been installed and teeth had been sheared off. I looked up the VIN and found that a 17 tooth gear should have been installed so immediately I ordered one straight from japland. I have since installed this and it worked perfectly for about 150kms, then one morning I go to take the car to work and find I have no speedo again :/
I have also noticed since having no speedo that the odometer still functions fine.
Today I have gone to see if I could find what the problem is and I'm now stumped. The driven gear looks fine, no teeth missing like the last one. The transducer seems to be plugged in properly. I have tried driving the gear manually with no positive results. I have also tried a different transducer from the local wreckers.
All I can think of so far is that I have a loose connection somewhere or both transducers are dead....
Any ideas? I'd like to get it going again asap but not sure what I should try next
Cheers, Kieran
If the odometer works fine, then its just the speedo gauge/display/needle that is stuffed.
