    Default AE92 gear selector issues

Over the weekend, we had gear slector issues in the comp car.

The small alloy square that enables the selection of gears became dislodged in one run, and wasleft on the track on the last run.

We thought that by adding a spacer to raise the height of the spacer to postion it in the slot higher, might solve our issues. It seems not.

Question I ask is, is there a fix so as the sqaure alloy part does not remove itself.
Is the problem somewhere else. Could the selectors be bent, or worn. It does seem funny, that replacing the missing part today, still does not allow me to select gears. Seams the upper selector may be bent, or out of shape.
Is there a bushing kit I can purchase to take some slack out of the system.

Anyne else been afflicted with this problem.

I did go to you pull it and get a few selector arms, and a new upper gear slector.
$19 for the whole shifter setup.

    OK,
Took all the selector forks and other items out.

Found the lower bush was missing which caused slop, and that the arm was also bent.

Inserted new arm with Alloy square and connected everything up.

All looks good and seems quite firm without any extra movement. Alloy sits almost rubbing on arm above.

Will have to look into a bushing kit as they do seem to wear, especially with over 200, 000k on the clock.

Also reinforce where the cable goes through the firewall. The metal sleeve sometimes pushes out of the rubber boot on hard shifts and then the cable just bends.

    I'll look into that.
Have tried to secure the cables so they do not move. Similar to the familia, but will still check

    Hi Smee,

    old thread i know but...

have you got any pics of the work you did?

Planning on overhauling E57F5 ae95 gearbox soon and would like to stiffen everthing up from synchros back to gear stick..
There's quite a few junctions and link arms that I believe can be improved upon, expecially in older cars that've had a hard life...
For example I've seen nylon link bushings replaced with brass as shown on this link..

The AE93 I have has an alloy bush on the selector arm.
I would assume that this is available as a part from Toyota.

The main wear issues I saw were the nylon bushes in the arms wearing.
Mine did not have the dust boots on, but ones I sourced from the wreckers did.

I also noticed that the previous owner had inserted spacers into areas they should not have been, and had bent the arm to try and alleviate some of the inherent slop.

Other than finding new selector cables and perhaps changing out the rubber bushes for brass(as is done in some lasers/familia's) the gear linkages have a fair amount of slop. Bushes under the gear lever could also do with renewal. The nylon bushes are cheap, and I have found the cheapest option in regards replacement.
