From memory most of the lights in Toyotas are ground switched. I.e. they get grounded when they need to turn on. So its more of a PITA. Check the grounds on everything now. To do that do a continuity test on a multimeter (if you didnt already know).
gday, i have a 100series landcruiser with a strange electrical problem. the parker lights and the dash lights wont turn on, now i thought this would be a simple fix as the rear lense is cracked and with the recent rain i assumed some mosture had got in and caused the fuse to blow.
The fuse was not blown and the inside of the light unit was dry, so i checked for 12v at the fuse block on the parker circut and i have 12v on both sides of the fuse holder regardless of the position of the headlight switch?
cheers
Craig.

ok thanks for that ill go and have abit more of a poke around with the multimeter, any idea why i would be seeing 12v both sides of the fuse holder? (with the fuse removed)
what model 100series you have?
4.5l petrol, GXL, 1998
have you or anyone fitted electrical compontents to the vehicle lately?
I'd take it toyota if I were you...
My mate (fully qualified toyota mechanic) was telling me about the 100 series electrics a couple of weeks back - apparently some of the looms are as thick as my wrist and the book of electrical diagrams is as thick as a phone book! Even the toyota auto elecs get confused cause theres so much in them
I just read your post again - maybe the headlight switch is stuffed
its got a dual battery system, uhf radio and a fridge, but they have been in for about 2 years with no drama. so no nothing new has been fitted recently.
i was thinking maybe il just drop it off at my auto elecs tomorow, ive seen some of the massive looms and there is 4 different fuse boxes and a 3 seperate ecu modules. he can play with it.
thanks for the help
Craig.
Just another thought
Do u have a tow bar? Electric brakes?
Used to have a EB falcon with electric brakes and it used to play with the dash and tail lights.
Also check any connections for you trailer brakes if you have them.
good luck
cheers
Craigy
Check for a hairline crack in the fuse itself , i have seen the flat wire in blade fuses get a hairline crack thats hard to see.
nah no tow bar, or elec brakes. i tested the fuse for continuity and it was fine. car is booked in to the auto elec for tommorow morning!
cheers guys
Craig.
