Default New stereo headunit - no dash lights...

    Hey guys n girls,

I have just finished putting a decent stereo in my SV21 1991 CS Camry and it sounds great bar one minor problem - I have no dash lights!

Now I have got my multimeter out and tested around and around and I'm a little bit stumped as what to do. With a little searching I found this site which has many wiring diagrams availabile:

    [url=http://www.modifiedlife.com/car-stereo-radio-wiring-diagram-1990-toyota-camry/[/url]

I will post the details here compliments http://www.modifiedlife.com,

1990 Toyota Camry Car Stereo Radio Wiring Diagram

    Radio Constant 12V+ Wire: Blue/Yellow
    Radio Switched 12V+ Wire: Gray
    Radio Ground Wire: Brown
    Radio Illumination Wire: Green
    Radio Dimmer Wire: N/A
Radio Power Antenna Trigger Wire: Black/Red
Radio Amplifier Turn On Trigger Wire: N/A
    Front Speakers Size: 3 1/2″
    Front Speakers Location: Dash
Left Front Speaker Wire (+): Pink
Left Front Speaker Wire (-): Purple
Right Front Speaker Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Wire (-): Blue
Rear Speakers Size: 5 1/4″ Speakers
    Rear Speakers Location: Rear Deck
Left Rear Speaker Wire (+): Black
Left Rear Speaker Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Wire (+): Red
Right Rear Speaker Wire (-): White

Now I think I know what to do but just wanted to be sure before blowing any fuse's or dash lights. Using the info above it says that the Radio Illumination Wire is Green - do I simply attach this to the illumination wire of the H/U? Or is something else required? I can post up my wiring if needed.

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Kind regards Rhyno

Yes, generally you just attach that Illumination wire to the Lights input on the deck.
Does the cigarette lighter still light up? Heater controls? Or is it just the dash?
If you haven't blown a fuse, check the dimmer switch, you may have left it unplugged. Without that, no dash lights

in past instances helping mates with stereo installs, i have found that with the lights off ( and hence no dash lights) the illumination wire can show up as having continuity to earth. check your fuses, if the dash illumination fuse has blown, earth the head unit to another point, or wire.
    hope this helps.

Hey guys thanks a bunch for your help,

Turns out my rear lights where out as well but the brake lights where working, lucky the 5-0 didn't give me any trouble

Had a look around and found a 15 amp fuse blown, after changing that and turning the ignition on it killed the fuse again. So I threw another fuse in pulled the headunit out and cut the two grounds I had found when I was installing the head unit. Me in my stupid "if some is good more is better" aproach, I had soldered the two together to the ground wire for the headunit

Did some multimetering with the lights turned on, and sure enough both grounds (a green wire and a white wire with a black stripe) that where both giving me 7 ohms of continuity from my test point, the green turned to a 12+ switched ignition??? Fricking weird just as JDM hachi suggested.

A quick bit of soldering and a bit of heat shrink and every thing is working fine.

    Thanks again guys,
