Hey everyone, I need some help. I've looked all over the place and havnt been able to find any help regarding this problem I am having:
I have recently bought a TA22 from a friend of mine, and I have known this car for quite some time. my problem is this: when I turn the key, nothing happens. no cranking, nothing. I know the battery is OK, as i have internal lights, so my first thought was to try a backup ignition coil. I put in a GT40T to try and test, however im not having any luck, yet I'm 80% sure the wiring is right. I'm not the most mechanical guy out so I'm stuck in a rutt here. any help would be helpful.
it was working perfectly fine one day, then not the next.
Interior lights working is not indicative of a 'good' battery. Flicking the headlights on and seeing how bright they are is a better one.
If you have no cranking then the coil is not your initial problem. The engine must first crank before it fires, no?
Honestly mate, i'd try putting some (good) jumper leads on it and seeing if you get it to crank at least. Even if that doesn't work, the battery could well have dropped a cell (which does happen, personally experienced it twice on my own cars) and the fucker will be fine one minute then simply not start again, even with jumper leads on.
If it does not crank with a new battery, you have problems with the ignition switch, starter relay, starter motor or associated wiring.
Oh, put your old coil (and ballast resistor) back on! A GT40T is not suitable for a TA22, you need a GT40RT - for ignition systems with a ballast resistor.
The 18R-G. The GOOD 2 Litre Tractor motor.
