2012 AROCA 6 Hour Relay - October 13 & 14

mine is also basically a daily
it is stock except for cut springs and a lot of the interior missing

we were passed by a lot of cars driving back to melbourne with numbers on them
most of the mx5 teams are dailys

Soo... my question is, has anyone done this in their daily before? ...or am i better off driving 2 hours out of town, shooting myself in the foot and hopping all the way back home? hahahaha

Depends on whether you are going to do it in an old or a new car. New cars can deal with a certain amount of spirited driving but you need to take into consideration things such as tyres / brakes and from a safety point of view possibly a harness and race seat. If you are super keen to do the 6Hr, try and get to one of the Winton Fun Days prior to give yourself some time on track and allow you to push your car to a comfortable limit. As has been said by Adam above you need to drive accordingly to what you and the car are capable of. I know my TA22 isn't the fastest car out there but I also know that I need to drive it home on the Sunday night. That's why I pack the necessary spares and drive within my limits.

It's a great feeling to do a 6Hr but an even better feeling to drive it into the driveway on a Sunday night all in one piece.

Nuk Nuk Nuk.......oh yes and the real possibility of engine damage that cannot be rectified at the track and alternative methods need to be worked out to get home . Slim's pic above illustrates 4 years ago when I spun a bearing and had to get the car home. Gotta be thankful for RACV total care. It both highlights the need to drive within yours and the cars limits...in this case not enough attention was paid to the fluctuating oil pressure gauge .

Definintely your last one until next year Ian? .......it will be a sad day when you don't run in the 6HR.....your impetus and drive got myself and a few others into these events so it wouldn't be the same without your lame jokes and consistent lap times.
