okay so for all the ta22 people out here this is probably a fairly simple question. I know that ta22 rear axles/diffs can be replaced certain hilux diffs/axles (with a reasonable amount of engineering involved). What i'd like to know if the diff from a 1996 RN85R Hilux will be suitable? If so, what is involved for the conversion?
Thanks
Any rwd diff could be suitable, some just require more modifications than others.
The most common hilux diff that is used comes from a much earlier version of the hilux, which has a narrower width. The model is an Rn25 (iirc) - which works out to be 1370mm wide, which is the closest you'll get to the TA22 width.
As you're changing bodies, the mounts will need to be changed - there are a few threads on here with info regarding that.
Another common conversion is an F series diff, again the mounts need to be changed, and some people will shorten the axles and the housing to suit the narrow body of the early Celica. The F series is a bit lighter than the G series diff.
Cheers,
Merlin
