RA65 has F-series diff, vs SA63 having t-series.
Well, as I've mentioned a few times in various threads, we're in the process of building an RA60 Celica as a rally car. Came across a complete car at a wrecker today...similar to an RA60, but...well...not. 2S-C motor, auto...and IRS. I was under the impression that the IRS model was the RA65, I've never heard of the SA63 before. Google turned up limited info.
What I'd really like to know, is how intererchangable are the mechanical parts? The plan is a 1G-GTE, W57 and a few other bits and peices. Since it's the same basic car, I imagine it's a similar procedure to the RA60 conversion?
If anyone knows anything about these cars, it's be great.
Cheers, RM.

If in doubt power out
RA65 and SA63 are near enough the same apart from engine and drivetrain. As mentioned the SA63 has the smaller T diff, and it also has a 2S-C instead of a 22R-E under the bonnet. For the purposes of your engine conversion all A6 Celicas can be considered pretty much the same.![]()

What the others said, plus the RA65 is the only one with an EFI fuel tank.
Aus xA6x sillycars go like this (All have W5x alloy boxes):
RA60: old style front & taillights, solid axcel, T-series diff, 21R-C
SA63: new style front & taillights, IRS, T-series diff, 2S-C
RA65: new style front & taillights, IRS, F-series diff, 22R-E
Also, what rally class is this, and what mods are allowed?
For 1G --> xA6x sillycar, most people leave the box in the stock location, then fab mounts for the engine to suit, then have to get custom swaybar to clear front sump. The alternative, like Kaizen garage did with Timottoway's GA65, is to sit the gearbox further back, massage firewall slightly, shorten the driveshaft. Something to consdier in motorsport where f/r balance etc is more important.
Ok, so the diff isn't the strongest, but apart from that it'll all end up pretty similar? Is the RA65 diff a bolt-in, or something else...I can see it falling apart under the stress if it's a little on the weak side...

FWIW Nark has destroyed his T-series diff (GA60). The F-series IRS diff will swap in, I can't recall exactly what parts are needed other than the diff but it has been covered in the forums.
yeah the whole subframe can be transplanted in from an ma61 - then you get vented discs and an lsd centre.
Ahhh...excellent. I doubt it, but does the IRS subframe bolt in to the RA60?

For interests sake, it doesnt matter which celica you buy, especically when an ra65 will be more money..tho i spose today it would be marginal!
As the 65, although it has the bigger diff, still runs drum brake rear....
So you're better off buying the cheaper of the two and forgetting the rear end dilema because the disc lsd rear end of the ma61 fits in!!
No, the RA60 has different mounting points so the subframe won't fit without cutting and welding metal.
EDIT: too slow![]()

FWIW, there are other ways to get rear discs. I bought a pair of complete swingarms & bias valve from a TT142 Corona (same disc swingarms but solid discs), then bought an MA61 parts car...![]()
Doing the R32/Z32 front & rear brake swap anyway, so doesn't matter which type of disc swingarms I start with (before you ask, drum swingarms and disc swingarms are different)

Wei. RT-142 Coronas with 22R-E's and F-Series IRS & discs can be found in old rubbish dumps and similar places. EFI fuel tanks, too. Corona=4Door Celica... but you knew that.Originally Posted by Stefan

WTB- replacement titanium nuts to suit the squirrel on my Megaswarf 2300. Carbon fiber model, not the Chinese knockoff fiberglass.
Well, not quite. They do share some parts, but there are a few different 80's toys that happen to have very similar rear trailing arms. I'm not sure that the Corona front struts etc are the same as Celica ones, and the chassis codes are different so the chassis is not the same.Originally Posted by wraith

Yep, but I'd try and get a MA61 brake bias valve as well so the brake bias is right. It's on the safe side if you dont tho...the rear brakes will bo pretty well nothing is all...Originally Posted by Robbos_Toyotas
I'd go the RA65 for having an EFI tank, lines and an F series myself...
