Default suspention on a v8 conversion

    hi all.

was wondering if i could get some clues on a suspention set up on an 85 4wd single cab hilux.

not looking for any thing super tough, just want to get a stadard set up thats stronger than the original.

also, any recomendations on strenghtening the diff's when i put the v8 into it.

    any suggestions would be great.

    cheers.

    dave.

    Hi,

What V8 are you putting in there?

    What power are you expecting?

Is the vehicle for normal road use or you thinking of doing drags or whatever in it?

It'd help if some tech questions were more specific so people could answer properly, rather than spending time posting for more info that should of been included in the OP. That's why numerous tech questions get deleted.

    understood river.

putting holden efi 308, not too sure on the power in those.

wont be doing any drag racing or towing, apart from a couple of dirt bikes on the back, bout 240kg.

will be doing some pretty tame 4 wheel driving.

    thanks mate.

    Hi,

I think your stock G-series diff will be more than adequate for the 308 engine and the duties you have in mind.

when you order the suspension make sure you mention the V8 conversion to them so they know you'll need heavier springs. sounds bleedingly obvious but you'd be suprised at how many people forget or assume

Stock power from the EFI 304 is 165kW (VN through to VS).
    SS's got the 185kW chip/extractors (HSV's had the 5.7L stroker kit)

I'm pretty sure Marks 4WD makes mounts for everything to make this a bolt in conversion

ah, yankee motors. so much displacement for so little power

off the top of my head at least 3 NA toyota motors make more than that out of less than 250ci

    Hi,

I make more than that out of an turbo'd 2litre (120 cubic inches?) 4-pot, and on only 12lb boost!

Surely those big displacement hunks of yankee iron can put out some decent power with mods?

its kinda like apples and oranges when you throw boost at it, but in stock standard aspirated form JZ, GR and UZ all outshine the pushrod's 165kw from 186-250ci

appologies for nitpicking.. but the engine isnt yankee.. its an aussie designed motor that was designed in the 60's. so how many toyota motors designed in the 60's make 165kw NA?

im not a holden fan by any stretch of the imagination, but V8's are a great thing for 4wding simly beause they are understressed, no fuss motors with bags of torque down low where you need it. and if something breaks you can rape bits off an old HQ left to rot in the middle of nowhere to fix the thing

personally i would go a chev crate motor over the holden but its not my project.. good luck to the OP
