Toyota engines of that era.... the V8 3V made 150hp and was a whisker under 3litres. Also the straight six 2litre 3M engine made 150hp. Both these engines have a much better power-to-displacement ratio than the 308.

Anyway, this is interesting but off topic. Good luck with the build and looking forward to seeing members ride.

ive been apart of a fuw 304/8 conversions into hilux/surf/4runners
using the marks 4wd setup, CRS also make a adapter kit

every one that used the stock gearbox blow it apart or broke it in time (some not even off road)
depends on how your goin to drive it, these were not putting around most of the time.
best gear box setup was using a R151 (i think) from a V6 surf. (i think turbo diesels might also use the same box)

diffs were an issue when running larger tyres (like 35'') when using a 2pin open centre, the LSD 4pin centres seemed to work the best for strength.

engine bay room was made to almost none

all of them had cooling uses when in the bush at low speeds.

though one wasnt to bad with the bonnet spaced up and some stuff cut out of the front, with the radiator moved forward and using the stock steel fan.

all we did for the front suspention was to add a leaf in if needed. i think most of them just used what ever springs they had most of the time.

i think most of them used oldman emu springs also.

or had the Rear Up Front conversion.
