Default 2TG or 18R-GEU into TA22, which is better?

Hey guys, my new project TA22 has a 2TG engine in it but is missing the head... should I just look for a head for it and get the engine rebuilt or should I get another complete engine?

What is a 18R-GEU like as a possible engine in the TA22? I will have a set of 40 DCOE Webers to fit to whichever engine I install.

I just want a good quick engine that is reliable and fun to drive.

Looking at this at the moment....

It'll be 2879153x's easier and cheaper to find a 2tg head and bolt it back together,
rebuild, put the 40mm webers on and get it tuned.

18rg's aren't cheap and aren't a direct bolt in either, including things like gearboxs and crossmembers.

I have a 2tg in my ta23 and speaking from experiance they are pretty quick and alot of fun to drive.

.....so you are the one who bought the car off ebay......is she any good?

As Caam said, go the 2TG option as the 18RG is not a straight swap. The 2TG will be enough fun once you get it all sorted and running. It may almost pay to look for another complete 2TG and either fit that or use the head off that engine, cos if you just buy a head you will probably need to get work done to it before you can bolt it on.

Yeah I'm very happy with it. Went and looked it over the other day and paid for it, pick it up on Monday. Pretty rust free from what I could see, front left guard is square lipped so will need to change that to the correct round lip. Door trims and dash pad are excellent but the roof lining has a tear at the rear. It's original colour is gold, it's had a backyard respray but I'll fix that.

I have found a 2TG complete engine that is available for $1000 but condition is unknown except that it was running when he got it. I am also looking at a 3T-GTE that is available, I would remove the turbo from it though and fit twin webers.

This is the 2TG I may be able to get

    or........

I know one flaw with putting an 18rg into a ta22 is that they are slightly bigger (in length?) and weigh more, but if you have the money and get lightned internals that could help with the weight, the pros are more power and a tough sound (tractor), 3tgte is awesome, but a bit of work is needed but many toymods members have done this so there heaps of info on how to install them, the 2tg is easy, its basically a bolt in swap as ta22 GT came out with these, im pretty sure one you have to mod the throttle linkages if your gonna go 2tg but i think thats it.

also, wanna sell me whatever one you dont go for, my 2t is gay

    cheers, Callum

EDIT: seems like I posted without reading anything except for the title? why...cos im awesome
