why not just buy a gt4 then? IMHO turbo + fwd isn't the best, i'd go for the v6 for best overall driveability and cruising etc.
Due to problems of my old 5SFE which has seemed to Sh^T itself, I don't want to spend more of my money on it.
I have a budget of $5000-$8000 to do an engine swap (if it is possible) I suppose the 3SGTE will be the easiest option too do, though I wouldn't mind a BEAMS, am I dreaming in fitting either one into the St184 at a max budget $8000 I know this topic has been done before but everything I've found seems to be old and not that detailed.
The other option is that another member on here (can't think of the username sorry) put the camry v6 in, I'm not looking at chasing big power or anything, and all 3 will be much better then the 5SFE already in it.
Cheers,
Dave

3SGTE, so much potential.
Or upgrade to GT4!
The plan was to buy a Gt4 with that money, but then I will probably have to spend extra fixing the said GT4 up. The St184 shell is pretty much perfect which is factoring in just a engine swap. But still not too sure, why do you not think turbo + fwd ? traction issues? I am not worried about that.
EDIT: The car won't be for daily driver, more so weekend and able to be taken down too QR/Willowbank,
I would pretty much keep the BEAMS stock, the 3SGTE more boost and maybe other things later on, I am just looking at stock halfcuts and install for now.
Cheers,
Dave

it's just somewhat of a waste, you could pick up an st185 gt4 for 2k and spend 6k rebuilding the eng. a turbo fwd st184 to be done properly you want the mr2 gearbox with LSD.
you'll still have the same problems with a halfcut engine needing maintenance etc hard to find good engines as said a whole gt4 will cost the same as a halfuct. i'd go beams for FWD and track work.
I would love to pick a ST185 up for $2000! Lowest I have found in QLD was $10000 and it was ratty! if I could pick a GT4 up for $2000-$6000 in decent condition I wouldn't bother with a St184.

then you need to keep looking. they pop up regularly enough for 5k and under.
Buy this: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/toy...-widebody.html
Under your budget, in QLD and already has built engine, front mount, ecu etc.
If in doubt power out
It just seems like a waste of the ST184 though, I suppose some parts etc will be able to be transfered to a GT4.
Cheers,
Dave
agreed, get howieau's great guy. sure to be a good buy.
any engine you put in the st184 except for the v6 or another 5sfe will be a waste of an engine, st184's regardless of what engine they have in them are worth next to nothing.
sell the ST184 get a GT4 or Caldina GT-T and never look back. A series-1 ST215 ( 1997-1999) manual will be in the $9-10,000 markPractical performance I say.
