oh sorry yeah that'd help lol
it's a 91 aristo![]()
I suspect without this connected the key insertion will not be detected so no beeping when the door is open but also the steering wheel will not auto extend when key inserted
cheersi'll cut it out then!
If the car has Immobiliser ( I suspect it has) it is the switch which powers up the immobiliser coil so it can read the Chip in the key.
There should also be a coil ( Ring ) around the barrell where the key goes in ( appears to be missing)
Toyoda
Wouldn't surprise me if it also controls the dome light in some way, in the Corolla if the dome is set on DOOR it'll turn on when I pull the key out even when the doors are shut.

well it's defiantly a switch that reads the key being in place - don't know what it operates but the engine starts fine without it![]()
theres no way a 91 aristo would have a factory immobiliser
they only came into japanese cars around 2000
is your car a auto? the little block looks like one of them 'soleniod' doobies which push up and not allow you to remove the key unless you are in park. my surf has one, it's been unscrewed off the steering column and cable tied to a wiring harness.
otherwise it's probably one of them annoying key in ignition while door is open chime sensors like mentioned above.
IMO i would just cut the wires. unscrew it off the column and cable tie it out of the way. cutiing wires everywhere is ewww.
i'm actually wanting to remove the complete key barrel and wire it all up to a dash mounted key barrel - at the moment ive got it tie-wrapped on the dash top as you see it in the pic
because the aristo engine is now fitted in this

get rid of all the dash wiring
u only need about 10% of the complete front cut harness u used
to get it all runing properly
I too would be looking to not use most of the front cut wiring.
I am pretty sure I left the connector indicated above unplugged for about a year on my Aristo to stop the door from chiming. As previously mentioned it stopped the steering wheel from extending, but that did not bother me as it was nice to do other stuff without the endless ding, ding...
