Im not going to internet bash you but its probably a good idea for you to sit down and decide exactly what you want out of the car and so forth. Is the money going to get the best results? Is the result going to suit what you want the car for? Id probably stick to a 4cyl personally for weight balance purposes. Bang for buck its hard to go past a sr20det, huge aftermarket support, make descent power and all alloy so light weight. The major downside is the sound. Beams 3sge ticks all the boxes, power, sound and overall performance.
If you do end up going to a larger cam make sure you have the other breathing mods to support it and complement each other. I had a 4ac with 290deg cam, better ignition, strait threw 2" exhaust, 32/36 weber. Was heaps of fun, loved to rev, sounded like a oldschool rally car. Was doughy low in the revs, really needed higher comp to make use of the rest of it. power wise i already had the rest of the gear on there so when i put the cam in it didnt make much difference to power according to my arse dyno. but the way it found its legs in the hi revs was the main reason i liked it. It kept making (small amounts of) power from 5000>7500. I dont think the 22r however with its diesel like performance will have the same characteristics. Its large capacity makes it more akin to turbo.
You will find a lot of cams with have a recommended compression rating and power band.
