The two engines you've described aren't even in the same league. In every respect (aside from bolting in) the 4AGZE is a better engine. It's more economical, lighter, makes HEAPS more power. That'd be my pick any day.
I just picked up a ra21 recently. I've always admired the look of the first gen celicas and knew how much potential it has. I'm trying to decide what would be the best motor swap for my car. 22re or 4agze? Maybe some friendly advise would make my mind up. ??

Since you are in California, buy a MR2 4AGZE and install that. It'll be legal in California as well![]()

The software required Win95 or better, so I installed Linux.

like chalk and cheese, 4agze all the way, even a 4age would be a significant improvement over any 22r!
he IS from the USA, and their you CAN get pistons etc for the 22RE.
that said, 4agze all the way.
RA23 - Twincharged

definetly 4agze. but make sure its a rwd one with the transmission behind it
also obtain an australian ta22 engine crossmember, it will make the conversion a hell of alot easier. making the custom engine mounts are as easy as pie.
because you live in La the frieght will be alot less than east coast areas.
victoria, new south wales, queensland... recommended for parts.
Oh of course I have to keep the rwd. My mind is made. I have a 4agze ready for installation. I am also going to re-do my rear end to support more power. Pics and videos will be available soon, showing installation of 4agze. Thanks for everyones opinions.
