Consensus would probably say words along the line of: ITBs and EFI would be heaps better.
So after finishing work at 2am last night and driving home I started pondering something.
Has anyone done a carby M series engine (5me,5/6/7mge)?
I would like to do something with the cressy that would sound nice and tough.
Is it even financially viable or should I stick with a 1jz,1uz or 7mgte?
Sometimes I have stupid idea...this may be one of them...

couple more mockup pics for you, currently modifying the holley plenum to sit flat.
couldnt fit all 3 DCOE's next to each other and still lined up with the ports.... will actually take some squeezing to clear everything, strut towers, firewall etc

hmmm, carbies do look lke that take up a fair bit of room.
But sound so fantastic. Maybe ITB's off a GTR or beeeeemer are the go.
Those dellortos look great. Are you doing most of the work yourself?
if by most you mean all, then yeahonly thing so far sent out was welding the plenum, i cant weld alloy
its going back next week to get the bellmouths i flared out of some tube welded in and the angle changed.
ive got the 3 dellortos, just have to strip/sandblast/polish/rebuild them like i did the holley. decided it might be a bit much to get the triples all set up and running right on a brand new motor, that needs to be loaded up straight away with an untried ignition system to boot and might have undone lots of good work.
i reckon the holley will be pretty easy to get going. ive got a good 2nd hand motor im going to throw in the car to have some fun while the proper motor is being built, so will use this to get a tune into the holley so when i fire the new motor up its all ready to go. also getting the Megajolt distributorless ignition system going at the same time, but since theres no new rings or cams to bed in it dont care if it sits there and floods for half an hour before it fires.
running it on E85 so gonna try the jets that are already in it first (was on some dirty old v8) and see if the extra fuel needed for the 85 is enough to balance out the overfuelling that im sure ill get.
who knows how the holley will go, based on throttle area alone it should be good for it. then add in AFM delete and those huge accelerator pumps and i think it will be a winner. will know in a few weeks anyhow.

I think due to my lack of welding skills I think I may go down the ITB route. will probably still need a custom intake though :S
What engine are you using? 7M?
The NA 7M's seem to last if you do head gasket and studs yeah?
yeah a full house destroked 7m-ge with all the good bits -forgies, huge cams, 13:1, dry sump etc etc
this will be the first NA one ill use a MHG and studs on, stock bolts and a good gasket are fine for 90% of NA builds. rod bolts are a good upgrade thought at about $60
oh and you'll still need to make/buy a manifold for ITB's. they come up very occasionally second hand

Definitely keen.
I think keeping fuel injection is the go.
Would be cheaper to tune...and keep in tune as well.
Less parts to maintain and break.

yeah commonsense says EFI is the way to go. i just love the way carbies sound and drive, plus its a dedicated track car so i can get away with it.

Hi,
Yep, something about NA engines with nice induction and linear power delivery that makes me smile. I love the ball shrinking rush of power from Trini's turbo engine, but the sheer joy of driving the NA engine in The 88, and listening to those carbs and exhaust note, is my greatest pleasure.
