Default What pre pump for surge tank? 4agze

    Hi Guys,

I have a surge tank in my boot and need to replace my pre pump because its old I don't trust it.

    Looking at this pump Inject-a-Carb

    Should I buy a 3.9-5.5 PSI or 6.3-8.1 PSI?

I am using a VL EFI pump for a 4AGZE running standard boost in a ta22.

    Cheers for the info.

    Pete

im using a carter 72g/hr 5psi lift pump, i dont think it was as expensive as the one you posted.
you dont need much pressure at all just need flow, you only need to pump fuel to the surge tank. the 5.5 will be fine, just make sure it can move alot of fuel.

+1 for flow being the important factor here.

while not disagreeing that flow is a major requirment over pressure, surely over doing it with your pre pump can cause a lot of heat in the surge tank fuel? as it would just be continually overfilling and cycling the fuel heating it up? or am i over thinking it?

also whats the quietist of these kinds of pumps?

Both the Pierburg pumps above flow a bit over 2L's per minute and that sounds plenty to me. Cheers for the comments.

My old pump pictured below failed, piece of shit. I had it opened up and the wiring came off the board, these pumps are loud and vibrate heaps. The wire they use internally doesn't stick to solder.

Had it done properly by one of the technicians at work and then the pump failed shortly after I tested it.

Also my mate had this same pump and it also died.

To close the thread, i bought the lower pressure Pierburg pump which flows about 100L per hour which is plenty. Pretty quiet pump and heaps of good reviews.

Mounting was pretty straight forward with a bit of rubber shielding added on some of the areas that may rub. Also pitted a $10 ryco metal filter cos I reckon tank could have a few goodies in it after 30+ years.

Really? i use one of those Facet copy pumps in my car, (at least I'm think it's a copy, hell maybe it's original) and it's never failed once. I've got a 2L surge tank, and 2x Bosch 044's, running 45 psi fuel pressure. Never failed me once. And beleive me, my engine can empty a fuel tank!!! (How does 110k's to a tank sound!?!)

Yeah thats fair enough, I had a bad experience with the Facet pump pictured so I wouldn't put any trust in them. I'm sure Holley is great as well, I bought the Pierburg after some research and wish I did it right first time instead of screwing around with one second hand pump and the cheapo above
