Default High Stall Torque Converters, Lockup and Freeway Revs

    Righto!

So I have had a 3000rpm hi-stall installed, which has been performing very well off the line, however I have noticed that on the freeway at speed my revs have increased a great deal.

I was under the impression that as long as the lockup clutch was retained, at speed in high gear I wouldnt notice any different, or only a minimal one? Currently sitting between 3600-3900 rpm (over 4 on inclines!) @ 100km/h @ 15% throttle. Before it would sit at about 2500.

Whats interesting is that at lower speeds, under 80 or so, its no different to before!

Would this indicate that the lockup clutch is not working, or is this just something I have to live with? Is my stock ECU wondering wtf I have done to the transmission and trying to compensate?

That does sound like the lockup ain't working? I have a 3000rpm stall in my Aristo and it cruises on the highway around 2500rpm @ 100kph

Well that's actually good to hear, I didn't want to think about fuel consumption driving 40mins of 4000rpm each day to get to and from work.

Transmission is being replaced so I'll get it looked at then. Hopefully I don't need to get the stall sent back to MV and its just a electrical problem or something.

Yep, does sound like lockup is not functioning. Could be as simple as wiring to the lockup solenoid, rather than a costly fault with the clutch inside the converter itself

you might be able to test it by manually rigging up a switch to power the lockup solenoid and see if it changes the revs...

Its going back in to get the transmission swapped on Wednesday, so C-Red can deal with it
