Could have a look into a Megasquirt, depending how brave you are.
I called up a local Adaptronics agent to see how much setting up their baseline e420d would cost on the Bigport(+ST Quads); got a quote for $2850+. I.e. $1000 for the ECU + another $2K to set it up. I now understand why people just throw in a BT 1/2 cut. . . .
Has anyone got an alternative which doesn't involve a laughable amount of money?
- Has anyone bought an eManage / other standalone ECU and wired it up themselves?
- Are there any cheap-ish piggyback units that will do the job?
- How much lost performance / economy are we really talking about if I just run with 86kW ECU?
- Etc Etc

WTB- replacement titanium nuts to suit the squirrel on my Megaswarf 2300. Carbon fiber model, not the Chinese knockoff fiberglass.
does that $2k include the mechanical side of changing the intake over to the 20V ITBs? and wiring up the new ECU? or just $2k worth of tuning time?
No; I said I'd do that. The $2K was just the tuning side. He said he'd need the car for a week; including a day for 2 Cold Start tests.
It's academic anyway; I have no intention of paying that kind of money.
I think if you talk to Adaptronic, you will find that the ECU now comes
with a base map pre-installed. That will be good enough to get you up
and running. FWIW, I bought an e420c from Anthony**, and he installed
a base map of his own in the unit for me. I installed the ECU using the
long Adaptronic loom spliced to plugs salvaged from a spare smallport
factory loom.
Since then I have messed around with the tuning myself (there is an
auto-tune function for the fuel map) and while my tune is not perfect,
the car starts and runs fine. Maybe one day when I get the car certed
and road legal, I will take it to a tuner for some dyno tweaking.
So if you have a suitable laptop, and donīt mind investing some time
in reading the manual, you can be up and running for the cost of the
hardware.

i got the same set-up;
get the custom loom from Anthony (loom + coil on plugs around $750) if u can find a CAS for decent price it would be really nice to do coil on plugs.
contact Anthony if you buy the ECU + loom form him he will take care of you, then tell him ur specs he'll load a base map then u can drive it for the Tuning Place (in melb Full tune $600 they keep car for 2 days)
with custom loom you have to connect only 5 wires. so easy , it's really really neat.
I picked up an old second hand adaptronic for $400, got it all wired up for $250, and got it tuned for $600. Been driving it ever since no problems. Not the best setup though.
Thanks for that; I'll give him a call. . . Re. CAS+Coil on Plugs however - I'd probably give this a miss.
What's the advantage of this set up anyway and is it really necessary? I mean, even using your figures of $750+$600. . +($1000+ for ECU?) I'm still looking at $2300 minimum; . . . more probably $2500.
PS: $2K tuning quote I mentioned previously included a new MAP Sensor; he said it wasn't advisable retaining the 23 year old OEM unit. I'll ask Anthony about this as well.
Coil on plugs is not necessary.. but it gives strong spark it's up 2 u man. yeah call Anthony, That price is for including map + Air temp sensors.
But i thnk if u gonna get a Brand New ECU + proper Full Tune gonna hit you at-least 1.7k (if u done the wiring by ur self ).
But remember this in modification side DO IT ONCE DO IT RIGHT. ( cause i learned it harder way, cost me a lot.)
I sent up my Harness to Anthony today; asked him to put in extra connectors to enable easy change-over from D.I-to-DLI as I still can't decide if I should run it with Dizzy ignition or Coil on Plug (plus I can't find a GZE Dizzy).
I want to keep the Bigport Dizzy intact (i.e. not cut off Rotors) in case I need it later*
I suppose I can look for a good 100kW Dizzy (not that easy to come by either these days) and fabricate a Cover from the GZE unit / 19121‑16020 (might be NLA tho) by epoxying another section onto OR I could buy internal 4AGE Dizzy Dust Cover (19121‑16160) and silicon that in place.
Thing is, whatever I do I'm looking at a 20+ year old Dizzy; as a minimum, oil seals will have to be changed, and maybe the spiral gear as well. . .
PS: Can someone confirm that Adaptronic ECU won't work with a 4-rotor CAS?
