    Wow, what a weekend!

I am amazed at the result given the truncated timetable worked upon, to get this event up and running. Officially, we had 122 cars register for the show on the day, however I am aware we had a lot of cars arrive and park up without registering too so people could have counted up to 140 cars during the peak times. I also noticed Toyotas circling on the surrounding roads having a look but not actually stopping, so signs are good for the show at the same time, next year.

My phone rang hot leading up too and on the day of the show as people became aware of the new event and I am pleased to see many of the people I spoke too, there on the day. We also managed to lure out some real head turners for the day; Les Kernutt's Toyota 800, Allan Griffiths' immaculate RT40 Corona and Leith Rhodes' RS56 Crown ute. My thanks and appreciation goes out to everyone who brought their cars out for display on the day - you made the event.

I will also take the time to thank our sponsors; Shannons Insurance, C-Red Tuning and Schultz Automotive for contributing financially towards the running costs of the day - without the support of these businesses, the day would have been a much simpler affair, so I urge you to support them in appreciation of their contribution of our event.

TECCWA also owes a great deal of thanks to Aaron and Chris Woodward. Aaron was the man responsible for taking my scribblings and turning them into the graphic art as seen on the entry forms, logos, stickers and had I not left them home on the day - the banners (next year!). Chris graciously responded to my request for a PA system on the day, to which I have had numerous favourable comments. Thank you both for your efforts.

Thanks also to Rob Russell at Veales Auto Parts in Welshpool for sourcing several show bag items from the various companies supplying goods to his store. The show bag is something we hope to develop over the years to a quality offering and with Rob's help, this will be much easier to achieve. Autotrader Magazine also supplied us with current edition mags for the day including a full page article that I am aware attracted many spectators down to the day and for which I am still receiving calls from other Toyota enthusiasts looking for more information on the show, club and next year's event.

I will also take the opportunity to thank all those people who helped out on the day - you are too numerous to list, but without your help, the day would have been a shamble. Thank you all for your efforts on the day.

We deliberately kept the awards for the day simple being our first event and the time taken to organise and run the show. TECCWA again handed out "Ratchet Awards" in the good nature they are intended to be taken:

Mark Andrews received a spanner for his efforts in bringing down several cars and organising his friends to attend on the day. I had several calls from Mark in the weeks leading up to the event asking for more flyers and posters and confirming increasing numbers of cars so for his enthusiasm for the event, we thank him.

Leith Rhodes also received a spanner for bringing his supercharged V8 Crown ute, after a conversation with him in the weeks leading up to the event. He held concerns that his car was not "finished" and that he was not happy with several areas of the car and didn't think it was show worthy. I was uncertain the car would be shown until I received an sms from his son; Nick which simply had a picture of the engine bay showing off the blower and text informing me the new injectors had been installed and the car tuned for the day. I think Leith can take some solace for his concerns by the fact, his car was one of the most talked about cars on the day.

Mary Woodward was next on the list for a spanner for her Toyota Sera with Electric drive line. After an incident with a kangaroo and trouble sourcing parts for such an uncommon car, these issues saw the car being painted Friday night, reassembled Saturday and picked up Sunday morning on the way to the show! The engine conversion performed by husband; Chris and son; Aaron also kept people milling around the car all day and was certainly a car worthy of the accolade.

Matt Jordan received a chrome trophy for his award reconciliation on the day. He sat there and input all the judge's scores to provide the pathway that clearly showed the deserving award winners. Thank you for your time and efforts Matt, I hope to see your Crown at the show next year?!

Finally, Steve Fullwood received a spanner for persisting with a project that didn't run smoothly, to still turn up on the day. In the lead up to the event Steve replaced the head gasket in the 1JZGTE motor in his RA28 Celica, only to discover he still had mechanical issues. I will happily admit, I was surprised when I saw his car parked up with the other classic Celicas and for his efforts to get the car to the show, he is a deserving winner.

    To the Crystal Awards:

Best Original Classic went to Allan Griffiths' green 1964 RT40 Corona Sedan - a car that has been in his family since new and a most deserving winner. Runner up was Eggert Vikingur with his white RT133 Corona Hatch.

Best Modified Classic went to Neil Dennis with his orange 1977 RA28 Celica - a car recently built to an exacting standard. Runner up was Duane Joubert with his AE86 Sprinter competition car.

Best Original Late Model went to Doug Edwards with his UZS131 Crown. Doug also took out the runner up position with his GS130 Crown too.

Best Modified Late Model went to Wayne Siviour for his ST184 Celica - a car that presented well in all disciplines of judging and deserving winner. Runner up was Aaron Woodward with his "VA61DETT" MA61 Supra.

Entrants choice went to Neil Dennis again for his RA28 Celica. First runner up went to Allan Griffiths' RT40 Corona and John "Coffee" Richardson took out the final spot with his MA61 Supra.

Best in show was not surprisingly won by Neil Dennis for his RA28 Celica - proof that his attention to detail is well recognised and deserving of the accolades awarded on the day.

Last little bits of housekeeping: I have "Toyotas in the Park" stickers available for $5 each for anyone wanting one - these are similar to the entrant stickers in design and the same size. We will also be doing a limited print run of T-Shirts featuring the "Toyotas in the Park" logo on the back and the TECCWA logo on the front for anyone chasing one. More information on these items to come - we ran out of time before and on the show day to spruik them properly unfortunately. Post here or PM me directly if you'd like one of either items?!

Thank you all again, I look forward to doing it all again this time next year!

    Clint

Yeah mate I was there in the 28 but I was there less than a couple of hours over lunch and had to leave. It wasn't in great shape for photography anyway as my decision to go down was last minute after persuasion by Mason at around 11am that day. The car had not been cleaned in any way shape or form. I should be able to rock up to the next few events since things are much less hectic for me now that I have finished uni.

Look forward to catching everyone again soon and being able to join in the cruise next time.

I believe the owner sectioned his original chassis with a later model item that was wider between the rails. I am aware it caused some consternation with our local registration authorities when it came time to first register the vehicle due to the work carried out to ensure the 1UZFE fit in the 50 series ute.

Thanks Clint, suspected something like that. Seems there isn't an easy way to fit a 1UZ in one....

    Cheers Brad.
