yeah as i said it was built purely for low down cruising, still running stock exhaust and fan etc. when i went gas (BIG gas system) i played with the timing til i got the power where i wanted it, the overall result is quite pokey for a NA 3lt on gas, it recently ate up a 1gr hilux with 200 factory killerwasps.
housemates GE with 268/8 in an externally stock (built) motor pulls away from 1jzs on the freewayits getting manual/extractors/ecu soon, should be a real ripper
just finished building a GTE with cast pistons, stock cams and my gears for a customer's soarer, will see what is does on the dyno shortly. i believe it has a gt35/40 hanging off the side but turbos really arent my thing so not really sure?

I usedd to send cams down south to Wades (Im in Qld) for a weld up and grind. They were well done and I've always done it this way. Never had an issue or heard of anyone having a 'weld fall out'?
I would much rather do this then reduce base circle on the lobe. Just my 2c worth speaking from experience. (& to subscribe to thsi thread as its interesting topic) Cheers..
Ps, I've also never seen camshafts lightened as per the pic above. cool!

What's the benefit of lightening the cams? Less rotating mass for quicker revving? Does it actually make a difference? I'll be commencing a decent 4AGZE build in the next few months, and I've seen this done to cams a few times now.
yeah its just about losing rotating weight
havent had time to get the ones i did in an engine yet lol

I know Web Cams in the USA has had success hardwelding camshafts. Note the above camshaft is hardweld only! Web makes some very nice camshafts. I've got a pair in my n/a 4AGE and I"m planting 145hp @ the wheels, and I'm still emsissions compliant
If you email Web and discuss what you want with them, they will make you a custom grind. and since they do know how to hardweld, you just discuss with them the lift and durations(overall, and @ .050")
Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
I have BC 264 stage 2 cams in my 7mge and they work well. About half the price of toda.

Don't supose you have any before and after dynos or anything to look at?

Yeah, target HP as a number is almost completely irrelevant. The difference in power curve shape is what I'm most interested in. For me, the (moderate) loss of bottom end and mid range is highly critical compared with (minor to moderate) increase in top end. Aaaahhhh stupid balancing sea-saws and trying to do something outside the mould. . . . . . . .
Thanks for the input.

Well, the 7M-GTE head is much like 4A-GE;both stop flowing more at about 8 mm lift.So on stock head it's just a duration that matters there.
When ported even a mild one with only new seats and mild port work call something like 10 mm lift.Serious porting and 12 mm is on the cards.
4-valve 3 litre six with 204 hp is a joke(not to mention turbo one at 238 hp);the cams are more like from econorace engine!
Box - I'd be looking for increases in top end versus mid range. Let your turbo selection handle the midrange. My old motor lost power and torque past 6k, new cams and setup now revs to 7k and power hasn't dropped off at this stage.
Compare a 7M versus 2J port and you will see a ported 7M head with oversized valves is now close to a factory 2J setup. As per Morgo its a choked setup from the factory and cams are only one of the issues.

7M intake ports are massive. Much bigger than stock 2jz intake ports.
