Default 1jz auto into gz20 error code 61, No.2 Speed sensor + not shifting on highway

    Hi,

I put a jzz30 1jz and auto into my gz20, re-used the gz20 a340e extension housing and sensors into the jzz30 box, wired up both the 3 wire sensor and the 3 wire one works well, displays speed on dash etc.

With the 2 wire one, I am getting an error code pop up every time i drive, seems to be when it reaches about 60km/h, Error 61 - "No.2 Speed Sensor defective" , this relates to the 2 wire speed sensor with the magnetic pickup that is for the ECT functions.

Also on higher speeds at full throttle it will not shift, but redlines at about 7000 and doesn't seem to shift stays at about 105km/h or so. with less throttle it would shift I think, also OD seems to work as revs change when i press the button

I'm thinking it might be playing up because of the speed sensor related issue, I have tried swapping the 2 wires around on it and still get the same problem and error. Did not have any issues on the 1g-gte with this speed sensor. is the jzz30 ecu not compatible with this sensor and what needs to be done? perhaps would a jzz30 sensor fit.

    Thanks.

Why didn't you just use the JZZ30 auto transmission complete, it doesn't bolt up?

I'm assuming that you've triple checked the continuity and correctness of the wiring from the 2 wire speed sensor to the JZZ30 engine ECU...
Hmm I also wounder if you get the same code if the SP2 sensor is unplugged...?

It's just the rear extension housing that you've changed right (and the sensor)?, the trigger inside the auto is still the JZZ30 trigger? Does the JZZ30 trigger line up with where the GZ20 extension housing sensor is located?

That should give you a few things to check!

    Cheers

I think it can be either OD1 or OD2 is not hooked up.

This what happen to my old 1j cressy! Didn't click into 4th gear

    Wilbo :

    - JZZ30 transmission won't bolt upto chassis (using GZ20 mount), so had to re-use GZ20 extension housing onto the jzz30 box, this way I could use the GZ20 mount. So it's a JZZ30 box with GZ20 extension housing and GZ20 Sensors (Both)

    - I checked continuity from the wires at the gearbox side to the wires at the ECU Pin side and all is good, I will check again though soon.

    - Should I try unplug the SP2 Sensor? I'm thinking if I do that it might not even shift out of 1st gear?
Happens when I drive around for a bit, not as soon as i leave the driveway, then it just keeps flashing nonstop

    - By Trigger do you mean the cog with the points ? I didn't touch anything on the shaft I just swapped the extension housing over to GZ20 one so I take it the jzz30 one should still be there

    - As for trigger lining up, I really didn't check when putting the housing on I didn't take notice to what was on the shaft and where it sits I just made sure the GZ20 extension housing bolted up. Guess to check I'll have to take the housing out or whole gearbox?

Hengsta - OD1 on the jzz30 ecu seems to be "Cruise Control" So I'm taking it I don't need to plug that pin anywhere as I dont need/have cruise?

OD2 is the overdrive switch and that is hooked up, and it engages/disengaged on the highway when i use the overdrive switch on the shifter.

It will go into last gear on light throttle, but under high throttle it wants to not shift and just redline and not give anymore acceleration. Other issues are sometimes it seems to "Lag" in between gearchanges, as in want to rev out, slightly take away power then give me the gear, not sure if it could be related to the SP2 speed sensor problem.

Anyway to test sensor on car?

Fair nuf, seems like a good reason!

You should have SP1 wired to the engine ECU from the dash as well, so if the engine ECU looses SP2 it should use SP1

You need to use the 2 pin reluctance sensor from the jzz30 rear housing for it to work properly.
