    Default Alternator regulator wiring

Ok so here is the dilemna...

i am not 100% sure if i have my alternator wiring correct or not... it appears to be charging but im getting some strange voltage conditions... fluctuations and more voltage when running on IG2 than when on IG1... also as the car warms up i lose voltage...

also my charge light is not turning on at all (not sure if ive blown the bulb at some point...)

So i am just wondering what would happen should i wire up the L (charge light) wire and the S (voltage sense wire) around the wrong way...

i have the 3 wire oval plug and from all diagrams ive seen the IG (ignition wire) is in the middle pin of that plug...

ive looked on wilbos wikki for the wiring pinout but as for which is pin 1 and which is pin 3 could be viewed 2 ways depending on which way you look at the plug...

so toymods brains trust what do we have?

I've added this to my wiki
"The following pinouts are viewed looking at the open end of the female pins, or another way to look at is is that the wires connected to the female plugs pictured would exit the rear of your computer screen."

I suspect the alternator would still charge to some extent, the alternator sense wire would be getting approx battery voltage via the alternator charge light, however the amount of current that the alternator regulator draws down the sense wire is very small and would never turn the charge light on...

However connecting the charge light pin to where the sense pin goes should blow the fuse for the alternator sense circuit (if you have one ) as it will be shorting battery voltage directly to ground when ever the voltage regulator turns the charge light on.... it's possible that you will have damaged the alternator regulator charge light output...

    Cheers

    Hi,

Not sure what vintage wiring you are after, but there's some info on the charging circuits in the Classic Celica Index thread.

    http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/gen...rum-index.html

Go there and scroll down to the Electrical section and have a squiz.

well looks like as wilbo suggested ive fried the regulator as i swapped a known working one in with correct wiring and the dash lights came on...
and went off as expected when the car started

voltage issues if had remained the same so yeah back to the drawing board now
