I think the board has already discussed Toyota sponsorship in the past..... i believe that they got some sponsorship for ToyotaFest??

As for the swearing issue.... well plenty of forums these days are censored, and to be honest i kinda like the fact that these forums are probably the only ones that dont censor it, and also that these are simultaneously the most socially inclusive forums im on. Other forums i find too stuffy and pretentious, and dont have the same feeling of community that Toymods has.... dont know what that has to do with swear filters though.

Personally, I happy to have the C word censored. Generally it is only used in a derogatory manner, and hence im quite happy with it being censored.
When it is used in a more joking/other manner, it is often mispelt anyway - for example.... "River is a dirty karnt"

Most people on these forums seem to have a good handle on using english more proper like.... so i dont see much need to censor.
    ...... butt scratcher?!

indeed.. altering the spelling gets around the filter, and also helps to show a more jovial meaning.

Toyota (and other companies) want tangible results from their sponsorship. They are in the business of selling cars, and although we buy parts, not many people here go and buy new toyotas from the showroom (nor are in a position to do so)

a "swear jar" where people actually donate money for every time they swear on here is a great idea.
the problem is actually getting people to cough up cash, and convincing the other 15000 forum members they should too.
it just comes back to be a kind of pay-per-view situation, and do you really think the mods want to have to hassle people for money for a swear jar contribution?

also, would it actually be LEGAL for th eclub to do that? yaknow, under the rules of incorporation? as a donation, probably fine, but as a punishment or penalty.. a "fine" if you will? what legal right does the club have to fine people for anything?

    Hi,

If I want nice and sweet then I'd join a knitting club. This is a car club and I expect colourful language. I detest filtering of any sort and, if we do have some form of filtering, I'd like it disabled.

We were approached a few times before we accepted sponsorship. We were approached because this is a healthy, vibrant and rich community of knowledge. It is all of us who built the forums into what it is. I know we need money to run the forums but not at the expense of changing what we are. Sure we get a nice cut to keep the forums going but if there was no profit in it then we'd have no sponsors.

As Cyndi Lauper sang... money changes everything... and if it means losing our identity then we find another way to fund the forums. All the sports I used to love are now heavily sponsored, and to the point where the sport changes to keep the sponsorship. In the end it is all about the money and towing the sponsorship line.

Who owns the forums? We do.
Who puts the knowledge into the forums? We do

Rather than having a sponsor who makes demands on our own forums, we should make demands back by saying this is how we are and if you want a part of it then this is how it goes.

We live in a nanny state and I'll be fucked if I'll post or spend time in a nanny forum.

This whole issue of naughty words not being allowed fills me with dismay and I fear for our identity as well as our inability to run/control ther forums as we always have.

If PF can get $7k in a very short period of time through user donations, surely Toyspuds can do the same.

    Hi,

Maybe we need to have a yearly Forum Cruise. Everyone comes along and does a donation. Like a mega Cruise but donate the keep the forums going. We need to think outside the box, which is unusual for me cos I do like boxes, and prefer to be in them then out of them.

Not sure where OC got the idea that we were actually after a swear jar as a penalty for infractions?? The only time it was mentioned is in the title of the thread, and I only did that to get people's attention (which seemed to have worked).

I must say that many TV shows have failed once they were sponsored too. Anyone watch Good News Week anymore? Do people enjoy Top Gear now that a 1hr show takes 1.5 hours due to 30 minutes of ads? I'll bet not as much as they used to. Sponsorship has a way of degrading things as River has mentioned, so perhaps we need to find a sponsorship method who like us as we are (such as what Franz Ferdinand did when they were hunting for a producer)

    FYI Guys,

There is a Donations Button coming, I'm reviewing 2 versions that should turn the trick. There are some small issues that I need to look into in regards to "Donations" from a legal standpoint however it appears the Club ticks all those boxes.

Hopefully the forums should be running a little quicker this morning

Toymods has always accepted donations in the "I Supported Toymods" format. Can't imagine an easy point and click donation system being legally different, however I understand that laws aren't usually written with logic in this country, so will let you continue the plight...

Correct, however the "I support Toymods" Format is a bank transfer.

The Donations Systems I'm looking at pretty much all use Paypal, and Paypal has been told by the Government to keep tabs on "Donations" in large numbers coming through Paypal for money laundering reasons.

As the Club is a non-for-profit organisation, and paypal is aware of this we should tick that box.

I'll be looking at getting something up and running once the current server/database issues are sorted.

    Cheers

I think what Toymods would consider large quantities of donations, and what money launderers would consider large quantities of donations are different by the number of digits between the first non-zero number and the decimal point... and I think the AFP, Paypal and others know this. I think the day Toymods gets accused of money laundering is the day you need to go through River's bank records with a fine tooth comb... (can't imagine an Alf Stewart style slave dungeon would cost that much though)

    Hi Guys,

We had our board meeting last night and will be leaving things as they are. So it's just the C word that is being filtered.
