    Default 4AGE RWD Alternator Information

    G'day,

Looking under hood while trying to turn my Celica over last night I noticed sparks from where the main power termianl goes into the alternator. So I thought I'll just tighten that up. I start to tighten the nut and the stud completly snaps clean of the back. I was only using my hands to tighten it.

So to cut along story short how hard is it to replace that stud or is it easier to just get a new alternator in the short term?

And if a new alternator is easier is there much difference in types, could I use a FWD or something?

    Thanks

You can use one from a 20v motor you just have to use the 20v plug and and wire it as follows.

    white to white
    black to red/blue
    blue to yellow

Will have to have a trip down to the wreckers then and see what they have.

Shouldn't be to hard to mod the plug on the back. Well I hope not anyway

resolder 3 wires, just make sure you bunch them together later on to help avoid fatigue. Plugs are also available new from auto elec's

Well that will make things a bit easier. I will hopefully get around to doing this tomorrow.

I got stuck two days ago when the wire from the broken stud came off again and the battery died not long after. Had to do some dodgy on the side of the road soldering with a lighter just to get home.
