Castrol VMX80
hey guys, ive just got a conversion going and i filled the box with 75w80 synthetic gear oil but it feels to notchy for me?
anyone got experience with what oil to use for the smoothest changes? i understand these boxes to be "notchy" but not this like, bit of syncro crunch on downshifts etc.. should be smoother atm im blamming the oil
Castrol VMX80
-Sleeper 2J + R154 X83
-GQ 93 Mav, 4.2 Diesel, 35" BFG KM2's, 4" lift, 3" Exhaust, Front Locked, Rear shimmed, Sliders, IPF foggies, UHF, 2871R and Intercooled.
and thats good stuff? i thort people would be running auto trans oil or half box half engine oil or something..
thats for v161's. If its notchy it'll be because you have worn parts on your R154. Ive never had a good run with an R154, never able to find the gears in a hurry and this is why im looking to do a manual > auto conversion. Or if i had the cash a T56 conversion

Never had shift issues with my R154 , i run CASTROL VMX80 and have done for a long time (drifting)
best iv'e tried is redline mt90 fixes that notchy feel
We normally use Castrol 80W90 or Redline Shockproof 75W90NS![]()
hm sounds like im gunna be doing the syncro's in the box instead of changing the oil lol... any chance of finding a manual for rebuilding the box you guys reckon or am i gunna just wing it?
Redline shock proof stuff damages the syncros after a while.
Motul Gear FF seems to be the best in most cases.
