I would like to know this too since ST18x suffer very badly from the same problem.
I bought a dash from a JDM halfcut to fix the problem, but its now starting to lift too![]()
I'm replacing the crashpad in my 1993 AE101 Corolla due to excessive lifting of the foam and vinyl covering around the windscreen demisters on top. The item I have to replace is is a good low Km item from a halfcut and while 99% better than the item I'm replacing, I'm also aware this dash has also started to lift in the same areas The foam sandwiched between the two vinyl layers is starting to deteriorate so I'd like to reduce the resulting lifting that will naturally occur.
Are there any motor trimmers here who have had any sucess in regluing dashes to reduce or eliminate this habit and if so, what method did you use?
Alternatively, if you tried a glue or other method that either did or did not work work, please list it up here, and hopefully we can find a pathway to reduce or repair the problem?
For those of you who have tried regluing - did the glue sweat at all over time - the smokey residue left on the inside of windscreens over time, especially in the warmer months I have been told by other trimmers is a result of incorrect or cheap glues being used.

A couple of years ago I took a Celsior door skin to a trimmer to see if he could fix it.
Similar to what you said, the vinyl had lifted at one of the edges.
His diagnosis was that anything that was 'injection moulded' (or something along those lines?) could not be repaired.
You basically had to recover the whole area.

My AE101 Levin has the same problem. I've been through 4 or 5 dashboards trying to find one that's not too bad.
On one of mine I scraped some of the foam out and glued it down with sikaflex then taped it in place until it dried.
There are also vents you can get from Toyota that come from another model that have a 'flange' that covers the edge and holds the puffy edge down, instead of sitting in the dash like the stock one.
Here's the details:
http://homepage2.nifty.com/levin-s_g...defroster.html (use google translate, there's some good info on that site)
there's also a place called 'Dashboard Restoratioons' here in Acacia Ridge, Brisbane that reckon they can recover the dashboards. I saw a dashboard from a 300ZX he was doing and it looked pretty good.
Yeah, this is for a car I'm cleaning up to sell, so not overly interested in spending funny money on it. Having said that, I like your idea of a flexible form of Sikaflex and substitute dash vents.
I think you may find the dash vents you want may be from a sdv10/vcv10, they had modified ones and a dash reglue when they were under warranty.
Also had a big bracket supplied that after it was glued you attached the bracket to the a pillars and wound down the knobs on the bracket to hold pressure on the dash while it dried.
Cant remember the brand of glue that was used but it was in a 2 part tube with a nozzle that had a hook on it.
Do you have more details? I need to put the vents into my Levin and the details on the site I linked aren't quite enough for Toyota AU...
They were just vents with a larger lip on them to cover the dash where it was lifting, not sure if corolla ones are the same because it was never done to corollas just the adm sdv10's but its worth a shot seeing if they fit.
Sorry i dont have more info but my memory is not that flash at the best of times and this was when the sdv10's were new so its probably about 1997 when i was doing them.
Any chance you can find out if the setting brace is still floating around at work somewhere?
Hi,
Trini is geting her interior done at the moment and she has gone from beige to black, including dashpad and plastics being fixed. Looks brilliant. I can find out for you later.
Sort of majorly pissed at the moment... had a big night with some Indian friends of Riverina. OMG, hot Indian chicks in sari's or whatever the fuck they are called... so hot. Many drinks and Bollywood music.... wonderful.

Epic thread necrophilia...
I'm just getting around to fixing my dash as per the link I posted above.
The part numbers in the link are correct and the parts should be fine for both Camrys (what they were designed for) and Corollas, as illustrated in the link.
The vents cost about $70-ish each (you need two) and are made to order in Japan.
Anyone got a mid 90's Camry model and frame number I can use to get these things put on file in Australia?
i didnt know you could repair a dashboard
