    Default Blower Resistor

I need blower resistor for my AE92 FXGT (it has auto air) and am having trouble tracking 1 down. All the ones I've sourced, so far, have also been broken.

Does anyone know if a AE101, or another rolla, model will fit?

    Hi,

Isn't it just a big fuck off resistor? If you know what it's resistance should be and its wattage, then you can buy one at Jaycar. Matter of fact, buy one with a bigger wattage (assuming it will fit) and it won't blow/break again. Of course, I'm assuming it's not some wierd shape or anything like that.

Do you know what wire to use to make the coil?

i just found where the break in the coil was, removed the shortest section, stretched the coil out, and soldered the new leg to where the old one was.
Done this on 2 or 3 cars now, worked a treat.

Unfortunately, the 2 coils that have broken are in such a bad way I'm not going to be able to do that CrUZida. Good idea though.

I either need to solder in new coils or replace the whole thing. At the moment I only have full fan speed.

I have some stainless safety tie wire - will that work?
I could easily coil it round a pencil or pen and solder the ends to the terminals (if stainless solders?) and make the coils different lengths for the different speeds needed.
    Thoughts please?

You can buy them brand new.
Get the part number from toyodiy.com and hit up amayama.

Nichrome wire is what is usually used.

i.e. this might be worth a try P

    Cheers Wilbo.
I'll pop into Jaycar and get some of that nichrome wire.

Got some of that nichrome resistor wire today (0.32mmX4m $5.90) from Jaycar, so will have plenty to trial a few coils to see what works best.
Will update later on how it went.

Well I made a coil and soldered it in to see if it would work. Nope
I only have the fastest fan speed still.
    Bummer!

    Do you have a multimeter?
Youll need to test what the voltage drop is across the nichrome resistor youve made.
You wont be able to just copy the factory size and num of loops as the wire properties will be different. You also might have to run two runs of wire in parallel as the nichrome from jaycar might be too thin and end up red hot or melting.
