Default getting ma61 6cyl digital tacho to work for a v8?

I'm not ready to give up on the factory tacho just yet. Is there a product for this sort of thing? I'm not a fan of having extra gauges all over the place.

    Thanks.

This is with a 1UZ? If you are using the factory twin igniter & dizzi setup, just take the tacho output from one igniter and then open up the MAZ61 dash (as there's a wire-jumper to change the tacho from 6 to 4 cyl) and change it to 4cyl. Output from 1 igniter will then be the right rev counts?

Yup, exactly what he said. That's how mine's running, works beautifully

Or, get an analogue celica dash...4cyl input!

Thanks guys. Not sure but I think it's running the 4cyl adaptronic in wasted spark mode? So not really sure what to use as an output. Any hints for locating this jumper?

Does your tacho read anything now? If so, I assume it reads around 50% too low?
In which case all you need to do is this. http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/sho...=1#post1299342

    If no tacho at all:
Going by photos and the for sale thread, it would seem to have an microtech x4 yet retains the two factory coils? in which case it would still have a dizzy and not be wasted spark. Seeing as it doesnt have the factory igniters, you will need to source a tacho output from the adaptronic itself, if you look into the aux output options aux out 1-3 can be set as a 6 cyl output, you will need a relay coil pulled up to 12V to generate the back emf that drives the tacho. (diagram here http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/sho...=1#post1251248) (Dont need to mod the dash with this option)

If you have an adaptronic then you should be able to set the tacho output to output so that you don't need to change anything! You'll need to set up a 'booster' for the adaptronic output however.

Sounds like I'm going to need a laptop? Tacho reads nothing atm. Relays and boosters and just wires in general aren't my thing so might have to hit up a sparky.

Yeah laptop required to change settings in adaptronic. (well you could pull the computer out and power it up on the bench and use a desktop)

It's probably an hour or so worth of work in total mate (and a few bucks in parts, which you probably already have so realistically nothing).
(Biggest unknown would be how long it takes to find tacho wire to dash heh)

Nah. In hindsight 1uz into m/ga61 is a really bad conversion IMO. At least yours wasn't done into a fucking targa top by a bunch of monkeys with a toolbox containing nothing but hammers.

I can't put a finger on it. 10 years ago it was my dream conversion. Now that I've got one I wish they had put the engine into something lighter and less conspicuous. Non-turbo it doesn't have the go to match the styling and if one goes turbo you would have been better off with a different engine in the first place.
