TA22 suspension options...

I have done a fair bit of searching and there seem to be a LOT of options around as far as suspension is concerned. I wanted some opinions on what is good value for money and which direction i should go in.

Options 1:
Stock everything with upgraded brakes.

Stock struts etc. with some decent shock and some lowered springs

Option 2:
Weld on coilovers for the front with some decent shocks and stock rear suspension.

Option 3:
????????

As a bit of background, the car will be mainly street use with a bit of drag/track use just for shits and giggles.

How much would i be looking for a good set of shocks and springs all round? Is the price of front springs enough to make it more worthwhile spending a little more and getting weld on coilovers?

Is there anything else that i could do to the rearend? (i'll be going with a hilux diff (or maybe a falcon/commo diff) so will be welding on suspension points anyway.

You can chuck on a rear swaybar on it, as ta22's didnt come with one, that would greatly reduce the handling and body roll, there always on eaby for around 200-300 bucks, theres various brake upgrades such as, corona disks, hilux brake calipers, you'll have to do some searching on the forums as theres heaps of threads about upgrading the suspension on ta22's. Im not an expert at this but im learning aswell.

...Stiffen the front and leave the rear swaybar off.....too stiff in the rear and it gets skatey and also picks up the inside wheel on corners leaving you with a single spinner if you're not running an lsd or locked centre. Go to the wreckers and get the front struts out of an XT130 or RT132 Corona......much bigger brakes and also better options to run coilovers and a greater variety of good shocks....King Springs lowered all round and some decent KYB or Koni shocks and you have a good basis to go from.

8641-1319SPORT are the front Konis I am running and 80-2157SP1 are the rears....worth about $550 for the 4 and fully adjustable.... King Springs are about $130 per pair...struts from the wreckers are about $50-$70 each side....decent thicker front swaybar is about $180-$220....for a grand you have a good budget package.....the sky's the limit really though.

I agree with Silly Rabit with the XT130 front struts.

I run standard rt132 struts in the front (basically xt130) with pedders sports in the front and lowered pedders springs, I find the front good, not to stiff and not to soft, aftermarket swaybar pretty thick 19mm I think.

Rear wise I now run Koni adjustable however they do come at a price. I have had KYB's and Pedders sports in the rear and both are a good package depending on what your after. The KYB's are middle range, not to stiff and not to soft, handle pretty well and price is reasonable. Pedders Sport great for traction but a little soft for high speed cornering but work a treat if wanting to get power to the ground. If you want some second hand ones I have some KYB's been run for about 6 months in the car and some pedders ones done about 500km so almost new. Some marks on both sets and some general scratches and what not from being rolled around the workshop but work fine. PM me if your interested. I can send to you if you want to pay postage.
