Default HOW TO MAKE, 2tg - 2t Carby manifold adapter.

I had a request to make to make the 2tg twin sidedraught carbies bolt on to my old celica's new 2t motor. Me being me couldn't say no, and the old single downdraught wasnt sounding to healthy anyway, so what the hey.... lets make this work.

The new owner of the "blue beauty" after having it for a month or so was starting to get the shits with the single downdraught giving him multitudes of problems, (the carby was a give away to go with the motor i rebuilt for king-s), it was a bit of an unknown, and as things go...the car runs perfectly when you take it for roadworthy and rego, but the day after the new owner takes hold the problems with the carby begin. With a number of visits to re-tune the carby and a basic rebuild we were still left with a rouge carby that didnt want to play fair.

SOLUTION!!! lets bolt some freakin twin sidedraughts on there!

And now we have a HOW TO

THIS IS THE THE FINISHED ADAPTER PLATE TO MAKE IT ALL WORK....

Now lets get down to business.
Minimum required tools needed for the job:
Bench drill, Grinder, Tap and Die set, hacksaw/ Jigsaw with ali cutting blade, Electric sander, Assorted drill bits, Centre punch.
    Materials required for Plate:
360 x 90 x 10mm Aluminium plate - (I had to use 100mm wide plate as thats what my supplier had)

    Step 1.
Mark out the centre on the length (360) of ali. This will be the start point to ensure accuracy.

    Step 2.
Measure out the hole centres for all mounting holes off the 2tg and 2t manifolds and mark onto plate, then find and mark your inlet ports.

    Step 3.
    Centre punch ALL points.

    Step 4.
Drill all the 2tg mounting holes at 6.75mm. And tap holes with 8 x 1.25 taper tap. excluding centre bottom mount hole, drill this to 1.5mm short of full penetration and carefully tap with taper, then inter, then bottom tap, as if this is drilled through you will possibly get water leakage as the 2t head water outlet slghtly crosses over hole allignment.

    Step 5.
Drill all the 2t mounting holes with 9mm drill bit, this is to allow a little manoverability for slight allignment issues, however if you think yr perfect feel free to drill only 8mm hole....im not perfect LOL

    Step 6. slightly tricky.
The bottom outermost 2t mounting holes must be countersunk down 8.5mm with a 13mm drill bit, (this is to allow the bottom bolts to be fixed in place and the 2tg manifold fit flush to your new adapter plate.)

    Step 7.
I used M8 x 1.25 x 25 allen head bolts for this part (purchased from any auto supplier in their blister pack section)
grind the heads of 2 bolts down to 5mm head depth, still allowing purchase of allen key into head. - these are the 2 bolts you will use to fit in the holes drilled in step 6.
    Step 8.
I measured the internal diameter of the 2tg inlet ports on the manifold to be 33mm dia, this may vary with other rmanifolds.
using a 32mm holesaw cut out the 4 x inlet ports into the adapter plate. Most time consuming part i encountered. next time i will use a new/sharp hole saw.
    Step 9.
Mount the 2tg inlet manifold to your new plate for test fit. You will probably find where some of the bolts will mount to the engine the manifold is slightly in the way, you can file down a little bit into the manifold to allow the bolts to sit home on the adapter plate.
    Step 10.
Using a countersink bit slightly tidy up all the mounting holes on both sides of the adapter plate.
    Step 11. Optional
shape your new plate to a/ look less boxy, b/ reduce weight, or c/ just because you can.

NOW what are you waiting for bolt that thing on to your 2t and make it GO!!!!

Pictures for each step to follow, all step by step pictures were taken with iphone and havent uploaded yet. Final pictures taken with camera, as displayed in first post. I will also post up pictures once fitted to engine.

    Thanks, Anthony

P.S. If this all seems too much, and you want this done let me know and we can work something out
