Default What Fuel Pump for a 1jz build??

    Hi all,

I just thought id start up a thread and throw the question out there.

What fuel pump or pumps would i use as an in tank solution on my 1jz cressida for 500+rwhp?

I have been given a couple of options. Walbro 255lph x 2 pumps in the tank or deatschwerks dw301 x 2 in tank?

Has anyone had any experience with the deatschwerks pumps?

    Thanks

    Chris

I don't have a Cressida however good pumps for large HP applications you could also use the Bosch 044. These can be used in tank as well as out of tank options. Walbro's are good also, I currently run a Walbro in my RA28 and it works a treat.

    hope this helps
    Aaron.

Walbros are great, quite and cheap. Bosch 044s are the goods for big power but are external and very noisy.

Heaps of people fitting Bosch 044's in tank these days, makes the pump heaps quieter and has better fuel supply then the others. You can get internal fuel tank socks to suit so they can be submerged.

I have 300rwkw 540cc injectors and biggest sard intake pump the injectors are maxed out atm at that on 16psi GT3037

    i upgraded recently to

Stock Twin entry modded fuel rail
    Sard FPR
    SARD 850cc Drop in injectors
    Larger fuel lines

unsure how much power this will be good for as im unsure how much power i will get from my setup so unsure if that will help but i should shit in 350rwkw (469hp)

    Thanks all for the input.

mscphillips & td42gq - i agree with what you guys are saying. yes the walbros are cheap and quite and i can fit 2 side by side internally which will make them even quieter which is why im thinking to go more towards those instead of the 044. the 044 would outflow the walbro no worries but the physical size of the would only allow me to fit 1 in the take which is why the walbro's are a better choice imo.

Sleepercorty who has helped me out with this build has 2 x walbro's in the tank running e85 and producing around 600rwhp. i would go with this but i have been given the option to go 2 x deatschwerks dw301 pumps for only $320 for the pair which flow more but i dont know anyone who has any experience using these pumps which is why im a bit worried of going this route.

That power should be attainable with that setup. i think the turbo will be the limiting factor and you will struggle to reach 500rwhp with that turbo.

Saying that tho 450rwhp would feel really quick if its a streeter. i would be happy with that sort of power as my turbo would be at its limit on that power figure.

I doubt i will have issues with the turbo i know many people in EVO's with over 500whp on 98 with this turbo best being 550whp there all race cars mind you so prob pushed to there limit. in saying that 1JZ with a lot of work done should at least get close since we don't loose as much power via drive line not being 4WD and also i have the added fun of Meth/water injection

but im detuning the car anyway 240-260 is more then enough for what i want to do with the car im just over building the car for when the time comes i need more power i just press a button and hello more power

and intake should be in tank BTW sorry researching air filters for my build

The new Aeromotive Stealth 340LPH pump. Flows similar to the Bosch 044 (not quite as good but good for a tiny pump the same size as a walbro)

Yeah ive had a look at the aeromotive website and they are quite inpressive pumps. I am planning to run e85 so what hp capabilities does this pump have? I know it says 800hp at the crank but working that out with driveline losses and and cause e85 uses alot more fuel would you see 500rwhp on 1 pump running e85?

The only reason i question this is that i would think that with my current setup i would see 450rwhp on e85. im sure 1 pump would be able to handle that but i want to really want over do it so if in the future i want to upgrade my turbo and other supporting mods to run higher hp i dont want to have to upgrade the pump again.

I know a walbro can do 400kw atw on E85 as E&H motors Silvia in NZ has just proved that recently.

I'd give the deatschwerks a go, they're warranted to run E85. Just make sure you upgrade all the fuel pump wiring.

On Wilbo's JZA80 it had an in-tank mounted 044 which was cavitating and causing random dips in fuel pressure, we replaced that with twin walbro's and it was sweet... only catch was it also required an aftermarket regulator too because the stock reg couldn't bypass enough fuel to get the base pressure below 60-70psi from memory. That was an expensive afternoon.

Yeah ive heard some mix reviews on them not flowing what the are suppose to. they are guaranteed to flow 300lph at like 40psi so they have to be ok. i was also looking at the aeromotive stealth 340 which is similar to the deatshwerks and also is rated around the same flow capasity.

Walbro's are tried and tested and i know they will work cause a mate of mine has them installed in his cressy and they work fine even with e85. im only just worried about the noise they make especially with 2 in the tank.

Ive gone a Bosch 023 intank job, basically a higher flowing version of the 040 and the biggest intank Bosch pump available. Cannot recall flow figures etc, but fairly hefty, and being Bosch, i'd expect it to be more reliable than the cheaper alternatives.

Yeah true. i think 2 x 255lph pumps would out flow a single big pump like that but only cost like $250 for the pair. Id go 2 walbro pumps but im worried about the whine they would have. Apparently there isnt much room in the tank but they do fit 2 in there. Walbro gss341 are 38.1mm wide and most other pumps which are 300lph+ are slightly bigger ranging from 39-40mm but may not fit. I guess the only way to find out what will fit is to pull the pump/ surge out and see what room is available.
