    Question Celica/Camry 5S-FE into ST162?

    Hi all,

A friend needs a quick replacement for the engine in his ST162.

Ive told him a 5S-FE will be a pretty straight forward bolt in... am i right?
Obviously he'll need the 5S loom & ECU too, but gearbox, engine mounts, etc should all bolt up ok?

    Thanks.

IIRC If you pull a motor from a Camry the bolt holes that the Celica uses for it's mounts may not be tapped / drilled, so you'd have to do it yourself. Alternatively you could use one from a ST184 / 204 which use the same mounting points as the 162.

Is there any benefit in swapping a 3SFE for a 5SFE? On paper they look almost the same in terms of power / torque...

It'll work, can't see why it'll need retapping, the camry 5S has all the mounting provisions, inc RWD, whereas the the 3SGE motors are generally the ones with untapped mounts that won't work in RWD.
