Camry gearbox for a celica

I have an st162 and the gearbox needs replacing so i went to my local wreckers to see what i could find. No luck finding an celicas, but there were allot of camrys there. If i've heard that camry gearboxes can work fine in the celicas? similar engine and driveline. Can anyone help me out here? thanx

I guess my question is what are the best camrys to look for if you want a manual gear box for an st162 celica?

SV11 should be ok
SV21 will work but you will need to change fly wheel as the starter comes in from the other way.
And from memory there may be a small problem with the engine mounts but nothing big

Swap the brackets over for the engine mounts. Flywheel will be fine if you keep the 162 starter, you may however want to make up a plate to bolt over the hole for where the outboard mounted starter would have bolted on.

Dam this is confusing

Sounds like i will need to get the starter and fly wheel, unless i can somehow use the st162 starter motor. Its almost a conversion job and all because i cant find a proper dam 162 box.
Dam i wish i wasn't stuck in tassie, there was plenty of wreckers in the main land that had 162s.

Wont stay in 5th unless i physically hold the stick in place all the time. Sometimes it will fall out of 4th as well.

your synchros are worn. usually related to high kilometers
use an ocy strap to hold the shifter in 5th untill you find a good used one, for now

cheaper to get a camry/celica box and bolt in compared to rebuild.

a worn syncro is more likely going to make it difficult and crunchy to get it in gear i would of thought.
