I pulled an E diff out of my Crown.

I thought it was F how ever when I pulled it out and did the Disc brake swap, then left it. Next time I played with it after palying with nemerous MA61 and Crown F series diffs. I picked up my old diff and was like that looks small.

On dis assembly again everything just seemed small. I took it try and fit the certre in a hiace f series housing and it didn't fit.

So yeah lessoned learned Early MS53's had e series.

i just thought of one thing that i noticed when i got the mx22... the drums(the outside part) are held one by a couple of machine screws, whereas the F diff ones are held on by the wheel. other than that, i'll check when i get my new diff....

    several days go by....then.....

i have my F diff next my car(can't change 'em yet), and the subtle visual differences are:

    - the top arm brackets have two holes drilled in them on the F, whereas the E doesn't.

-as i already mentioned, the drums on an F aren't bolted to the axle, whereas on the E, there are two screws on each side. very subtle differences.

now hopefully no-one will be caught out buying an E, when they want an F!

i'll get some pics of the drums themselves, cuz i'm sure they look a bit different to each other too.

joe , the screws holding the drums on is just a early and late thing with the f diff , late f diffs didnt use the screws.

Joe, both my old E series diffs had no screws holding the drum on. They werent missing, there was no actual provision for them. So i think its just an early or late thing.

While i'm at it, I have an E series diff centre & 2 pairs of axles sitting around. If anyone's interested, they can have them.

    Cheers
    -Phil

it must be an early thing, cuz my mx22 has build no: 000540. it's a '72, first year of production i believe.

Also more hardtops have the screws than sedans for some reason.

where are you finding your info? i'm very interested.

that's strange, they must have been the first of the model production or something, then realised that it was an un-necessary waste of time and money.
