I was under the impression the "A" series diffs were relabled "G" series diff's ie.8" crown wheels ans the "F" series diffs were 7.5".
And the G centre wouldn't fit in a F case, so thus, why would a A fit in a F!?!?!?!

toyota changed the way they coded the diffs around early 90's sometime. the new code doesnt tell exact spec just from looking at it like the old.. but rather what specs were available for that particular car.. the numbers refer to what ratio options were available and the a and b on the end refers to lsd or open. so an a01b on an altezza refers to 7.5" option 1 with lsd (something like that) but the same code on a jza80 would refer to a larger diff with whatever ratio was available for the car etc etc.
hence why it was a nice surprise to find the altezza lsd will fit the older F series

Thats interesting, I always thought a 8" crown wheels behind a 3S was a bit OTT.

So how does this new system work with the JZA80 which came with both A 8" & B 8.5" diffs and then the 3.0l Altezza's with B's, then JZX100's with A's!?!?!?!
    Good old toyota!!!
