Default Toyoglide A30 auto - strength.

Anyone know anything about the strength of an A30 toyoglide auto? I'm thinking it won't be much as the M engines were hardly monsters but Trimatics and C4's never had much power to deal with and they can be built up ok.

    Needs to handle a 450nm 5l engine.

I think you'll be a bit of a trendsetter here. Can't be that many people who have had anything stout in front of one of these - certainly not with any upgrades that might show you what they are actually capable of. Plenty of people will tell you they've failed but that's no doubt stock, so interesting to see what they can do with some mods.

I can't even find a picture of one on the net. Seems like Aisin pirated GM designs earlier on with the 2 speed, perhaps they did similiar with the 3 speed.

    Hi,

I minced an A40 auto transmission behind an 18R-GTE. Lasted... ohh.. about 10 days of fairly mild driving.

So, not sure how much power/torque you're thinking of putting through, but the A40 didn't like upwards of 160kw. Not sure of the strength of the A30, but I can't see it being any less or better built. And yeah, interested to see what mods you are going to do.

Reverse is the weak link in a A30 , something like the clutch piston isnt accumilated or simmiler which cracks the housing .
Seen many lose reverse over the years but in forward gears they are ok ,
When i used to tweak the bands they chirp 2nd with a hot 4 or 5M .
