depends if the 22re one has a cas that talks to the ecu. the 22r carb spec unit probably doesnt have that. not 100% sure, but at a guess I would say you would have to swap it over too.
Hey guys,
doin a 22r to 22re swap on my 96 lux 4x4. The swap is going fine but im wondering if i need to swap the distributor and coil, and if so does anyone know why? or can i leave the old one in and adjust the timing. cheers guys help would be appreciated.

No you don't need to touch the ignition side of things at all.
The ecu does not control timing on the 22re
The ecu only needs a tacho signal to fire the injectors.
I have done the conversion before and it was very simple.
I recommend removing and blanking off all the EGR equipment too.
Waste of space if you ask me

Doesn't the TCCS version of the 22RE control timing?

thanks guys for your input, what your saying does make sense i will see if i can get away without changing it. The only other question i have is the cold start valve that is under the plenum, that has a tube on either end for a hose im guessing that the idle control goes through this? So one hose from the throttle body then another from the plenum? any help would be great cheers.
if you mean the cold start injector, then the "hose" needs to be connected via high pressure EFI (R9 not R6) hose to the fuel rail?
EDIT: or do you mean the idle control valve?

yeh mate the idle control ive got the injector sorted. i bought all the efi gear in a box and some of the hoses and things weren't with it so ive worked most it out it just a few last things to sort out. so yeh do i attach the idle control in between the throttle body and plenum.
