    Default AE92/3 (4A-GZE) Steering Vs AE92/3 SX/GTi

I popped this question up a while ago but didn't realy get any definite info; so I thought I'd try my luck again.

    I've been told that S/C AE92/3's had a quicker rack (~2.5 turns) than the N/A AE92/3s (~3.75?).

I was thinking of installing the steering gear out of a AR92 GTZ into my car to sharpen up the steering; looking at ToyotaDIY the rack, pump & tube seem to be unique to the GTZ. . .

Can anyone with a GTZ confirm how many turns lock/lock their car is?

Found a wrecker breaking a GTZ a while back and he actually refused to sell me the steering; said he was doinmg me a favour and to save my money as the steering was the same in all AE92's. . .

not sure about the AE92 GTZ, but I put an AE111 BZ-V superstrut rack into an ae94 years ago and it was a massive improvement over the standard rack. Just had to change the rack ends etc on the AE111 rack to AE92 items.

Thanks JP; it's worth a shot; I'll scout around and see what they go for. . . I gather you didn't change anything else (i.e. the pump or tube assembly) ?

I actually bolted the whole 20V setup into the car, pump, lines & resivour... This was on a 20V though, I can't remember if the actual lines at the rack were the same between the two.

I think thats the proper way to do it; I noticed (in Toyota DIY) that the Rack, Pump & Tube assembly were unique to the GTZ; i.e. they were designed as a "system" . Line pressures are probably higher too meaning different pump spec. . . so I think the sensible thing to do will be to take the whole shebang when I go to the wreckers. . . .
< I'd also like a BZ-V box but they only have the 6-speeders. I "share" a BZ-R with my bro and I frankly hate the C160; would put a C56+Quaife in it in a sec if I had the $$$. . . come to think of it I'd probably flick that goddam Superstrut suspension too while I was at it - both are a fragile PINA. . .>

Tie rods are easy to change... just grab new items..

Also smallport powersteering setup is identical to 20v.

Did you also swap the Articulated Joint over???

I put in the AE111 Rack today; all good EXCEPT that I couldn't do up the Pinch Nut on the Articulated Joint / Yoke / etc. . I just needed another 3-5mm of length.

I screwed around with this for 2-3 hours, and butchered both pinch bolts into the bargain. Was I meant to get this off the AE111 as well???

I noticed that even though they look identical, the AE92 unit (45209-12080) has a different Part # to the AE111 unit (45209-12080). In fact this latter Part number came in at the beginning of the AE101 run.

I would not at all be surprised If on measuring them the AE111 version a few mm longer - damn Conversions Karma God got me again - hope the wreckers are open tomorrow. . .

GeeEss - would you mind letting me know how much it cost you for the AE111 Rack, what you got with it, and where you got it from? I'm looking into upgrading the rack back to power steering on my AE92 4AGZE Nova, and would love ^^2.5 turns lock to lock. Would love some advice on what bits I need exactly to make this work - ie is a 4AGZE power steering pump the same as a 4AGE power steering pump? etc etc. FYI my Nova is fitted with a AE101 4AGZE.

Would love to go part shopping tomorrow and over the weekend if I can get it all together what I need and where to get it from...

Also - are Tie rod ends and rack ends the same thing?

    Craig

the racks look identical, and the tie rods are the same. Also i run my 4agze rack with a 4age smallport powersteering pump fine, and i cant notice any difference to when i was running the 4agze p/s pump
