    Default Paseo 5E-FE cutting out

    Hi everyone,

I've been having problems with my 1996 Paseo for months and months. When driving the car at any speed the engine cuts out, it doesn't turn off, the engine management light comes on, the tacho drops to what I think is roughly half the rpm it was doing. Sometimes it corrects inself in a matter of seconds, other times the car rolls until the car stops and the engine stalls.

To try and fix this problem we have replaced the crank position sensor and coil packs with no success. The especially odd thing about this problem is sometimes the car will work for weeks without a problem, then becomes basically undrivable, cutting out frequently.

Here's hoping one of you guys knows what it could be, my Dad and I are all out of ideas!

    Thanks, Lance.

Have you tried to pull the engine diagnostic codes via the check engine light?

Looked for loose connections? Give various parts of the engine loom a gentle prod and shake with the engine running and see if it changes anything or cuts out etc.

Think we've got it fixed. Prodding the loom was the trick! Dodgy rejoining of one the coil pack wires seems to have caused the problem. Thanks guys!
