    Default Blacktop - Noise woes

    Hi everyone,

Hoping you guys could give me insight/advice/wisdom/gospel on this. As some may know, my cylinder head was as noisy as any of the poor condition blacktops doing the circles around. Fast forward some, since then my head has been cleaned up and shims realigned etc. I thought it would be okay but I thought the same noise was still there albeit softer and not as pronounced.

I went back to my personal mechanic (He wasn't available for the above work done) and got him to do a personal inspection. He listened to the engine and traced the sound to the injectors?

    Head - Silent
    VVT Gear - Ok
    Intake - So-so
    Injectors - Source

Now I'm at a loss as to whether I should just get the injectors clean and hope that reduces the noise or if I should get a second set and hope for the best?

    Thanks everyone!

not sure in a blacktop, but in USA TVIS engines it is common to hear ticking from the injectors

Ticking is common but this is crazy loud, almost as loud as my friend 1000cc injectors o.O

It does a good job of making the worn shim sound XD

Mine were loud too, so I changed the insulators on them and it went away.. cost was about $1.50 each (2 per injector). Now the next noise is a squealing dizzy... sigh...

so you tested the VVT pulley to make sure that's not the source? Is it a diesel rattle noise or just ticking? If it's more of a diesel noise then check the VVT pulley at idle by applying 12V across the VVT solenoid pins, if the noise goes away the VVT pulley is your problem. The other thing on blacktops that can make them really noisy is the hydraulic cam belt tensioner ram, when they fail (not uncommon for them to fail) the topend gets quite noisy, I had a brand new one fail after 1500km.

    Hi JP!

Its ticking, the diesel rattle noise funny enough after the shims were readjusted etc, almost disappeared/overshadowed by the ticking.

I will test the VVT as you suggested though cause I want my car to be near silent (Noise is driving me nuts lately XD)

Hydraulic cam belt tensioner ram... =| I'll get my personal mechanic to check that too =D

    Thanks JP =D
