awesome,i've got some cp's on there way.i have them in my torana.not cheap, but a very nice piston.

i've spent a few grand in the last week while the exchange rate is good. do you have any good links for cams? camtech and tighe are both around the $850 mark.

Yeah that's the going rate for billets, not many budget ways to get around if you want really big cams.

One trick many forget with bucket cams is if they are quite meaty in the base circle and you can put custom thickness shims under the bucket (will dig up the mob in melbourne if anyone wants some - $8 each) and gain a bit over a mm of lift and 10-20 deg of duration on cam with 1mm of base circle to play with. I had a look at 20V cams a while back and believe you could get a bit out of them with a grind. $120 each for a regrind and $160 in shims and you could be in the 270 duration mark with over 10mm lift. By shrinking the diam of the base circle you get a more aggressive ramp rate too, which will aid spool time.

second hand cams for 20V come up rarely on yahoo auctions, but some are to be had if you are patient. a new big TODA or TRD cam would probably be abotu the same?

actually, a bit cheaper pre-shipping, around $500 each

1st Step - Get rid of the 20v ST head. Flow is very poor, even when ported its not that great unless you spend some BIG dollars on it.
May as well get a 2nd hand blacktop head for a few hundred dollars.

280kw is a pretty normal target these days with relatively simple internals.
We have a few in NZ with stock 4agze bottom ends, running stock blacktop heads and pushing out 250-270kw atw on 20-22psi of boost on 98 pump gas.
With a turbo sized from a GT2876R to a GT3076R. I have the dyno plots for these cars as well, the one using a GT28 hits full boost around 3700rpm, the other using a GT3076R sized hits full boost at around 5500k but he is using a fairly large ex housing as when he runs E85 he uses 32psi to get 365kw atw.

I remember years ago when I was a regular on the Gold Coast & Sam's Corolla was making hanging around with the Rigolis, Sam's Corolla made massive numbers from a pretty basic setup.

Bazda is on the money. With current tuning knowledge it's practically as simple as selecting an appropriately sized turbo for your power level and you'll achieve your goal. A standard GZE with ECU, fuel system and an appropriately sized GT28 will easily go 300rwhp+ all day every day. My old CA18 setup was only 200cc bigger, and made over 250rwhp (confirmed as it ran 110mph @ 1050kg) at around 15psi on a little GT28R and with what I'd consider a very safe tune and only spinning to 6500rpm.

With another 1000rpm on board (around standard redline for a 4A) on a 1.6 and a better tune it should turn fairly similar numbers. If you want to go a little bit further, you don't have to drop ten grand on a long motor... 7500-8000rpm is doable on any 4AG as long as it's in good order and you keep oil up to it.

I posted a similar thread recently about 4A power levels, and everyone shat on the idea. It's interesting how the internet tends to display an opinion that is taken on by others and then in turn validated and re-validated by people who read it somewhere, so many times that eventually it is the 'truth' and anyone who says otherwise deserves to be shot down keyboard-style.

Good luck with your project; I've decided on a more modest power level (somewhere around 280-300rwhp in the interests of a better power spread, but yes 280rwkw is achievable without need for voodoo magik
