Default 20v turbo engine build suggestions?

i need to freshen my st 20v for its new home in my mini tubbed ke55.

this will be a budget-ish build but i'd like to end up with 280+rwkw

crank needs to be linished-prefered bearings? king, acl, clevite?
rods? how much can a st rod handle? arp bolts? change them to spool, par etc?
pistons,i want to use the ae101 gze ones that i have, block requires a very light hone
    rings? factory toyota or acls?

i'm going to use arp main studs and head studs, and get the bottom end balanced.

is the stock oiling system capable?

the turbo is a gt3076 so im guessing i'll need 8500rpm and 25+psi.

    happy days

'280rwkw' and '8500rpm' don't really fall under budget. I would use a bigger turbo and set the rev limit at 8000rpm. The problem is that the 20v has 1.6 litres of displacement. To screw that much power out of the motor, nothing can really be left to chance aka please empty your wallet sir.
I hate to say it, but if you really need that much power (and have a small budget), look into dumping a larger motor in there. Less strain on the engine, you don't have to run as much boost, and you don't have to cross your fingers when hitting the rev limiter.

i spose i should say without spending shit loads! i'd be happy to spend 5-6k on the long motor (which to me is budget,my torana engine is just on 25k).

i reckon it can do it,with the right combo and good tuning

If you want that sort of power you'll have to pay allot of attention to the head / intake etc...

Hasting rings are worth a look and king bearings... Acl race go alright too.

2jz injectors are a direct drop in, but am not sure if they'll flow enough for the numbers you are chasing.

I'm building a similar setup, and am hoping to get around 200-220kw at the wheels.

25psi and 8500rpm, with 80% to 90% VE (ie 80-90Nm/L/Bar) will give roughly 320-350kw at flywheel (as far as theoretical numbers go)

    ST rods probably = no.
look at the AE92 rods, or aftermarket (spool?)

edit: check out 30psi's build thread, amongst others

I reckon it can be done, for pistons stick with your gze ones, get toyota rings in my opinion, as they have given me no dramas in the past. spool rods are reasonably priced and are good value. I would also recommend acl race series bearings as I have used them in several engines (4A's included) without any dramas.

oil system will be up to the task, just possibly get a new oil pump or atleast check yours out and do the usual smoothing of internal areas of the pump if you are worried about flow. But I believe if you just buy a new oil pump you will have no issues.

$5-6K 20V build should work out a treat, they're quite easy to get bits for these days.
How I'd spend it is -

    $600 spool rods
    $900 ACL 20V turbo forgies
$400 genuine gasket set (includes decent MLS headgasket)
    $250 ACL race bearings
    $500 custom plenum
Just over $2700 in the parts needed - $3000 will easily cover all machining, balancing, porting and even the ecu if you have contacts.

This car [clicky] was featured in Zoom many years ago. Basically a GZE/20v hybrid with a simple plenum chamber bolted to the quad throttles, FMIC, GT30, ECU, up the boost, hey presto 294rwkw.... simply put.

Good luck with your build. 8500rpm and 25psi is going to be fun! :-P

5-6k on the long motor will easily net you the power you want *if* you are smart about what you buy. Anyone can throw big dollars at something and still make it break, but it sounds like you have some experience with building engines so you should go alright.

Just a tip, you can get CP forged pistons with a range of comp ratios or even custom compression ratios from below for US $569... and there are probably even cheaper ones around.

It pays to shop around with 4AG parts atm, they are still common enough that there is good aftermarket support overseas, which means big savings with the current exchange rate. Just sit down for a couple hours and do some solid research, decide what you need, and go buy it! I assume you already have someone who will take care of the machining/assembly so that's about it really. After that you need to make sure you get all the right supporting equipment to keep the engine alive. Look at the oil system and valvetrain first and foremost. Both require exponentially more attention from 8500rpm upwards
