Changing Radiator on a Paseo

Hi Everyone,

Last week I was inspecting the radiator hoses in my Paseo and noticed the top was very brittle. So today I replaced the hose with a new one.
While removing the old hose, part of the radiator opening broke off. Looks like rust has taken over....

I ordered a second hand radiator from Melbourne and should be here early next week.

My question, what needs to be replaced when i put the new radiator in? (i have new hoses & coolant)

apart from that, it is probably a good idea to swap the thermostat at the same time.

if the inside is really rusty, (and even if not) you might want to flush it out before fitting the new stuff... ie remove the thermostat, and stick hose on the inlet pipe (the one going to water pump) and blast water through there...

okay cool.
do i need to change the thermostat seal as well??

and when i blast water through the inlet pipe, where does the water come out?? will i need to drain it afterwards??

would probably help, but it depends what sort of seal there is.. ie paper gasket thing, or O-ring etc.

flushing can be done by draining coolant (and putting into bottle cos th eshit is toxic when put down drains), and then refilling with water and running until warm (with heater tap open too) and then draining again...

but since you busted the radiator already you can use running water (mayeb not in current water restrictions????) from hose to do it.
if the thermostat is still in there, then it will stop the flow of cold water, so it comes out first.
then pull out radiator, so you just have the 2 radiator hoses connected to engine.

you cna either put hose into the radiators top hose and back flush..
or put hose into radiator bottom hose, turn on and then start engine for a shor ttime..
hopefully th e hose fitting will sort of jam into the rad pipe so it sorta seals...
then run the engine + water until stuff coming out is clear and.. done..

edit: and where does water go? it pisses out everywhere

or you can wait to put in new radiator (but no thermostat yet) and fill with water, run, drain etc...

or maybe someone else will have a better idea
or you could search aroudn on google..

When I did mine, I had to fill the mounts at the bottom with Sikaflex as the mounts on the radiator were too small to fit in snugly.
I had the exact same problem with mine, exhaust shop snapped the pipe coming off the top tank straight off, then blamed me for it.

I am having to change my radiator as mine is also cracking/brittle, im going to replace water pump, thermostat, seals etc just to avoid any further problems, but has anyone fitted any better or up graded radiators or waterpumps, im all for putting back the same stuff so i know it all works but if n where possible i like to put in better quality or higher grade shit. some time in the distant future its getting a new motor with sum balls in it so some of this stuff might be good to get a head start on bette stuff,... but not many people out there tinker too much with paseos so im finding and getting the right advise is as easy as finding a truthful politician. any suggestions gratefully apprectiated.
