    Default 1G turbo actuators

i'm gonna be rebuilding my CT12's over the winter so i thought i'd have a look at upgrading the actuators too. what psi rating do the standard actuators have? can these be rebuit/upgraded if so to what psi? or is there a direct replacement that will do the job?

a screw type boost controller will be the easist way to up the boost. the std GEN 1 and 2 i think are 8psi and the GEN3's were 11psi.

but yeah just a basic manual boost controller will do the job, you just have to make sure to don't overboost them although it is fun in the process

thats the problem, i did over do it a little lol. thats why i wondered if there was an uprated alternative available?

wonder what a 1j stock boost is.. since they use a C12b could they be interchangeable?? if so then hks make aftermarket ones for them

get a electronic boost controller. a bleed valve is in my opinion worth about as much as they cost. they seem unstable at anything more then a tiny adjustment. a electronic one is very romantic.

also make sure you have a descent/accurate gauge so you can tune it and also make sure you dont over boost the turbos. many new EBC have a max boost cut such as the greddy profect II that i was using. great bit of gear and cheaper then some of the others on the market.

i know HKS actually did actuator springs in various PSI. if you really want to muck around with this method then perhaps compare springs with a 1J turbo.

also instead of rebuilding a single turbo conversion could be viable?

i'm not going down the single turbo road, 1G's are quite rare here in the UK so i wanna kinda keep it in the correct configuration.
i think boost controllers on the whole are a waste of time as once you find the sweet spot thats normally where you keep it, i don't know anybody who turns it down again once they find the sweet spot.
    i'll investigate aftermarket actuators further.

i had 'duel stage' on mine and i would adjust boost levels according to what i was doing. low boost for normal driving, driving to a track, wet drifting. high boost for dry drifting. i figured it was a good way to not put the motor under more stress then need be when not really needing full power.

2J's are known for boost spiking with free flowing dump and exhausts with stock turbos. a EBC can help correct this. i dont know if 1Gs suffer from this. i found that with the EBC it seemed to come onto boost sooner and you can tune a consistant boost presssure.

if you dont want one thats fine but what you must understand that they are more then just about hitting a targeted pressure. your much much more likely to hit this 'sweet spot' with one. if you had of had one you probably wouldnt have blown your turbos in the first place.

also on the note of the actual turbos. i personally hate turbos for mountain driving or drifting i find the lack of response and even the small amount of lag (with a stock turbo) to be annoying for anything other then 'giving it a bit of a squirt' so i can understand sticking with the twins to a point.

ok, you misunderstand the thread... i haven't actually blown my turbos, i'm just rebuilding them for good measure.
