PM Yellorolla. I know he's built a few 3Ts using these pistons
Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a set of forged pistons for my 3T GTE. I hear people talking about Wiseco and at this stage they are what I want.
Anyone know if the ceramic coated pistons at 87mm are a stock line from Wiseco or if they are made to order?
If they are stock a part number would be great.
Cheers,
Simon

Yeah I have tried to contact YelloRolla but no response yet, so I thought someone else may have the answer.

i dont know about wiseco but my arias ones look alright, they are 87mm forged, if i had ever had them in an engine i could tell u what they run like but after 14 months my rods still arent here.
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.

Simon, can't remember what size mine are, can check details when I get home but I've got ross racing ones from America and gapless rings supplied by them as well. People use to tell me that forgies are nosiy but I can't tell the difference between them and when it had standard pistons.
Cheers,
Neil.

they are usually a little noisy on start up - my 3sgte with forgies sounded like a little diesel for about the first 2 mns if drivng but then settled down to be silky smooth
those are ACL pistons

licrash,
Can you send me a couple of pics of the pistons you have? I'm also trying to buy a set of eagle rods. Seems they are on back order...
Not sure why forged pistons would be noisy and I'm certainly hoping this is not the case.
Cheers,
Simon

Any info is appreciated. Were the ones you bought a stock line or specially made? Got any pics of part numbers?

Hi Simon,
Long time no chat...![]()
Not sure if these are the same pistons you're looking for or not, but the last set of Wiseco Forged Pistons I ordered were the "Sport Compact" range.
It was a while ago, but from memory (Yes, I do remember a lot of useless info - that sometimes comes in handy)... I think that the Part Number was a K547M87 for 87mm (the last 2 digits indicate diam - up to 89mm).
I hope this helps.

P.S. - Did you finally manage to break the standard pistons in your 3T-GTE, or are you just looking to rebuild + more power?
My stock pistons finally gave up the ghost on a recent track day after a couple of years punishment @ 145+rwkw (can you say "leaking boost retard vacuum line")

I emailed eagle direct and they say they will have them made in about 3 weeks time. Where are you trying to buy them from?
I find it odd that eagle quote $400 US a set whereas others quote them for around $320US, not sure how a second supplier cna be cheaper than the manufacturer?

OK thanks. I haven't broken my stock pistons yet, but at 145rwkw I don't think they will last over the long term so I'm planning to rebuild soon. I also want to increase power and boost, so I'll definately need them as I'm hoping to get closer to the 200rwkw mark.Originally Posted by 3T-GTE

Why forged pistons are noisy.
Forged pistons should typically have a piston to bore clearance of round .0035"-.005".
This is because of the high silicon content and high expansion rate of the material.
So, it takes a few minutes for them to reach operating temperature and maximum growth.
Normal cast pistons usually have only around .0025"
They will also rattle worse if the block has standard size bores and has done a few km's with worn bores.
Another suspision is the qaulity of the machine shops work.
