    Default 1jz auto lockup

hi guys im looking into getting a mv 500rwkw 1jz auto for my cressida but just wondering whats the go with the lockup??? i think the 3400 stall is the biggest stall with the lockup and ill need bigger. so will it hurt it if i dont have a lockup converter??? how does it all work???

you wont need a bigger stall speed then that, well you shouldnt, i had a 71mm on my 1j and it was fine, i had the same converter with a 74mm turbo on my 2j and it worked fine.

the lock up clutch takes away a lot of the slip in 3rd gear at the track which increases your MPH, the looser a converter is, ie higher stall speed, yes it will help you off the line but will stuff up your back end MPH

it wont hurt the engine no. but what your going to make up in et which will be a pooftienth in the sixty foot you will pay for with lack of back end MPH so overall your ET will most likely stay the same, you are alwasy better to run the tightest converter you can.

loose sloppy converteres will hurt the transmission over time as it will generate a lot more heat and will make it an ugly daily driver.

i ran it without the nos for a while, but to make it a consistant race car i had to run gas. its just too slow without it to come up to speed on the line

as shane said tighter convetor will give you more mph but will not have as good 60 foots as a loose convertor, so there are benefits either way. mine doesnt have lock up and is fine as a daily driver and still runs ok mph for the size of the convertor. one plus with the lockup is you will make more power on your dyno sheet, i was tempted to put a standard convertor in mine just for a bigger power figure but im way to lazy
