Question 1984 Corona 2.4L RT142' need some help with mods

Hi everyone Im a new to toymods as I just purchased a 1984 Toyota Corona Drift car, you can see vids of the car and me drifting on YouTube at Pussytastegood1

The car is pretty good, with stock motor and only engine mods are a pod filter, some scoops for more fresh air and some iridium plugs, otherwise engines stock
The inside is stripped and only front seat exist, also air con is gone for weight loss. It obviously has a locked diff and is sitting super low and is rock hard, Its currently got ergo but I plan to get a trailer so illegal mods are fine by me (it sits 6cm of the ground as is) what else could I do for more BHP for under $500, the main things I need are a short shifter (where can I get one that will fit ?) and I need some more POWER, so thinking of a new exhaust system as it's stock besides a new end twin pipe
The only other thing it needs is a strut brace, but I can't find one for a corona so I need to find one that is very similar In size (maybe a s13-14 or skyline of some sort ??), any help would be Awsome, thanks

    Hi mate

I'm not overly interested in drifting as a 'sport' but since you're asking the question, I guess I can answer!

I think your money is better spent on suspension. I've seen plenty of basically gutless cars drifting very well and the key is momentum and the ability to keep control of the car at extreme angles which negates the need for lots of power.

Cam, extractors and exhaust is about all you can do for one of these, without lots of money.

Instead you will get maximum benefit from a serious clutch, sharper gearing in the rear and extensive suspension work. The 22R has lots of torque so you should have no trouble keeping those tyres turning once you've broken traction. Until you get better at it, I'd suggest higher tyre pressures in the rear and skinnier tyres in the rear. Once you get a handle on that, you can go back to bigger tyres (for more smoke!)

Out of interest RA60/SA63/RA65 brakes bolt on if you want a bit of an upgrade in that department. Cost you about $50 from a wrecker.

Thanks for the info, the suspension is already great , it's super hard low kings on the back with commodore shocks, and on the front it has 28 way adjustable that make it sit 6cm of the ground and it does drift with great control I just don't have enough grunt to use second gear, but yes I will do the exhaust system (next on the list) and we will see if that helps, in the tyre department I run 35-38 psi in the rear and 34-36 in the front so it's pretty high, at the moment I use stock tyres for the back and some SS-R drift rims 15"x7 on the front, I have the matching rear set they are 15"x8, the original front brakes (disk) are now on the back and some even bigger disks are on the front, and I do agree it has some grunt in 1st but if you let the revs go under 2000 second is useless

a good set of headers/extractors and nice exhaust system in general makes the world of difference apparently for higher rpm stuff, also once done that do the air flow meter thing, (check out http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/minutemods/afm/ ), could also run premium fuel and wind in a bit more ignition advanced, also blocked off egr gear would be the go

irs rear end? get a diff out of mx73 cressida for shorter ratio. live axle just go with you usual t series suspects

yes I run premium fuel (always) and yes it's a full exhaust system to come how would think this would cost ? As far as air goes I have a pod and scoops (real ones) and im thinking of adding a ram air pipe, see pussytastegood1 on YouTube to see the car and what i've done to it so far

Just got some new windscreen squirters with red LEDs and they squirt so hard ($6 of eBay ) and I now have red LEDs in the engine bay so at night the scoop have a reddish glow and if you lift up the hood it looks awesome cos I have lots of red things (pod tubing, oil cap and more), will get a full exhaust system in the next 3-4 weeks just need to save up a $1000
