Default Bad Bad Engine Noise. Could anyone rectify it? Sound Clip provided

I've developed this noise after overtaking someone. Is it possible anyone could rectify the noise? I am guessing it will be the conrod bearing.

I'll agree, it doesn't sound good.

My spare Gen 4 3SGTE says I can rectify it, but shipping would be a bugger.

Unless it's a damaged accessory or lack of oil (you've checked the oil level right?) then I'm confident you need a new (or rebuilt) engine.

Without catching your clothes or hair in the engine or belts or anything, get a very long screwdriver or thin metal rod/bar and touch it to the engine block in various places. This will act like a stethoscope and allow you to tell roughly where the noise is coming from.

    PS: overtaking someone eh?

sounds like youve spun a bearing. the more you run it, the more damage you will do. pull it apart and pray that the crank and rods are salvageable is about all you can do at this point

dropping the sump will quickly tell you if this is what has happened, but judging by those sounds its most likely a foregone conclusion...

IDK what it is, someone stick somekind of farting noise maker on the exhaust pipe>
It isn't loud enough, sharp or heavy enough or consistency enough to be a rod knock.
Does this thing have some kind of a blowoff valve on it?
What's the compression & oil pressure like?
What does 'rectify' mean to you?

    Thanks for all the replies.

It is very strange that out of nowhere. Yeah a bit embarassing when overtaking, my last motor went doing the same thing.

I have a spare motor here just in case, just no where to do the engine conversion.

I do have an embarassing part of this story that happened when we first did the engine conversion, there was a slight mix up with the oil filters and as a result the oil filter ended up coming off and dropping the oil while driving. I then put the correct filter on and filled up oil.

The car seemed fine once I filled up and i've just been driving it since with no problems till now

Oil pressure has not come up yet. The engine had new oil seals prior to me owning it recently.

I agree with allencr, the sound isn't consistent enough to be a bearing.

Is it a metallic sound? Its hard to tell with the vid but it actually sounds like something slapping around inside the cam belt cover.

Pull the cam belt cover off and check the cam belt hasn't frayed and is just slapping around on the inside of the plastic cover?

When you say oil pressure has not yet come up, do you mean its always had bad oil pressure?

Ah sorry I should have mentioned, the oil pressure light hadn't come on, the pressure seems fine.

Someone mentioned it could well be a loose flywheel?

the sound quality is shit, can't really tell what type of noise it is.

    Rattle-y, or farty?

if it's farty, could be as simple as a cracked exhaust gasket somewhere.

I totally agree with the screwdriver-stethescope diagnostic tool - will quickly tell you where the noise is coming from.

I do apologise about the sound quality. I will definitely get a better sample. The screwdriver seems the way to go.

    Thank you

sounded like a spun bearing to me??

could always be another bearing or whatevs though i guess. my engine made a spun bearing type sound when my s/c tensioner decided to make a bid for freedom....

dropped the oil yet to see if it's full of mr sparkle?

Is this the same noise you asked me about a while ago?

I agree, it sounds like something in the top end or something loose and vibrating around... +1 for the stethoscope - you need to narrow down which area of the motor the noise is coming from...

Recently had this kinda sound with 1jz-ge. Disconnected hydro fan, temporarely put water pump pulley back but didn't tighten it thoroughly. The loose pulley gave such rattling sound.
